This reminds me of the Ferrari 360 market about 3 years after the 430 came out. The 430 had more performance and crucially was the first v8 Ferrari that had a non interference timing belt that did not require an engine out service every 2 years to replace which ran about 10k... hence down stream costs on the slower 360 are substantially higher.

At first when they started dropping in price the 360 owners say yeah that one sold at 140, but look at this one for sale at 180... 6 months later they sell at 120, and they say look they are going up look at this one offered at 150.

12 months later yeah that one sold at 100, but look this guys asking 140 they are going up...

All the while dealers are saying they are going up trying to sell their stock...

God damn all of you for scaring him away, I was just about to offer him my entire watch collection with extra money on top, plus my apartment and my left kidney for his Tintin 😡

He doesn’t need to, others will do it for him.

What makes “Foo” so special, compared to you? With over 13000 likes, an interesting and varied personal watch collection, generous feedback on other OF sellers, creation of informative threads with intelligent and entertaining content, over several years, I think it is fair to say that he has made a thoroughly positive contribution to the overall great OF experience.

And your positive contribution will undoubtedly be....leaving.

Too bad he's gone. I've just bumped into a thread on the other forum with a story just like his. Only on a different watch...😉
Stopped at a local Rolex AD.....Very interesting discussion.
[...]
I considered buying the BLNR and I likely still will. But I jokingly offered to trade in my Tudor Black Bay Black Bezel ETA I was wearing and he was in horror. He then went on to tell me how rare the “Black Rose” is and that it would be a big mistake on my part. I told him I was just joking and he still kept insisting that I keep that watch forever. He never got them in stock and he’s heard some really low production numbers and that it’s truly a rare modern Rolex related watch that is truly going to become very sought after. He was told the black Bezel was supposed to launch the in house only. He heard they released a quick run of the ETA Black Bezel to move the remaining ETA movements but it was not the plan. A true anomaly of a watch. [...]

Same guy also started a thread "TinTin becoming the next Paul Newman."

Patrick gone now, as well as alter, MJWatch

Wow. That guy. Great. ::facepalm1::

Hopefully he won’t revert back to sending me abuse via email - I’d hate to have to tell the Glen Ellyn police department that he’s backup to his old tricks.

Here’s my non-investment, worn as intended Tintin.

If you’re keeping yours in a safe, unworn, because it’s “too valuable”, frankly, you’re a bloody idiot.

They keep it in a safe so they can flip it in X years... so they are not "bloody idiots" but just investors...

Watches are for wearing.

Watches are for:
a) Wearing
b) Investing purposes (like gold etc)
c) both a" & b)

For YOU is a)
for others a), b) or c)

Watches are for wearing but sometimes the owner wants to pass it to the next one who either wants to wear it or he/she believes it can flip it also making a profit an so on.... Eventually this beautiful watch will "feel" the skin of someone's wrist 😀

I have to say I’m a bit with @tyrantlizardrex

I sort of find it weird to keep something nice for someone else you don’t know.

Get the investment thingy but you have to wear it and enjoy it, even if it takes a few dollars off the future price.

Watches are FOR wearing.

That’s their purpose.

Anything else is a happy secondary effect.
