Hi all. A few weeks back I added an 1866 to my collection. since then it has been running about 15 seconds fast a day in all resting positions. 15 seconds fast is a little more than I like to see. Is this within omega tolerances? Thank you.
If you have an Omega boutique near you, take it in and they can do some basic regulation and probably get it back in spec. 15 sec is not that bad really.
Is the watch new? If not has it been serviced recently? As noted tolerances on the 1866 (same as 1861) are -1 to +11 seconds per day average rate, measured over 3 positions. Cheers, Al
I wouldn't worry, my Speedy Pro (1863) started at about +20/day when I first started wearing it regularly but settled down to about +8 after a few months. If it continues after about another month and you really can't stand the discrepancy then best bet is to take it in. Best of luck
Out of interest, what kind of accuracy can actually be achieved with proper regulation? Mine was running +5 seconds Pred day right out of the box, which I thought was pretty good!
Depends entirely on the condition of the movement and the skill of the watchmaker making the adjustments. Cheers, Al
I just sent my 1861 to get regulated. It ran +20. They just demagnetized it. Took only 20 mins. Now it runs +-1. Good luck for yours.
Thank you. I've been wearing it everyday and resting it crown down at night and the past few days it's been about +5. I hope it's settling in.
can someone comment on why it is that the watch 'settles down after a few months?' i've heard this a lot on the forum, and haven't understood why it would be the case. what happens mechanically after a few months that changes this process of 'settling down?' fascinating.
Settle down after running for a while, and why is it? That seems to be the way with mechanical watches. And I don't know whether there really is an answer. Perhaps it might have something to do with activity of the molecules in the metal in the hairspring. Returning to a running state after being still for a time? I see it quite regularly with many of my high performance watches.
