I'm looking to replace the bracelet on my Mark II with either a 20mm leather strap, a notched strap, or put it on some mesh. The leather option I'm thinking of is a racing type strap (even though the watch isn't a racing version) with the holes in it near to the watch case. Will this suit it? If I go for the notched then do I have to go custom? Or are there off the shelf alternatives. I've had a quick look round, but I'm not able to find very much. Alternatively, if I go for some mesh, who would you recommend?
I use the mesh, and also a Hirsch Ayrton 20mm in black and orange (I have the Mk2 racing dial).. if you have a normal dial, the black/blue might work https://www.watchobsession.co.uk/collections/hirsch-ayrton
I have a couple of things to say. 1. I really like the bracelet that comes on the mark 2. The brushed finish and adjustable glide-lock clasp make me never want to take it off. 2. You have to be careful with thick leather straps as they will not fit on the mark 2. Only straps with thin ends where the spring bar goes in will fit because the mark 2 has very small lug tolerances.
For Rallye Straps, I’m a real Heuerville convert, there’s none better, in my opinion. I bought this dark grey one with my 68 Transitional in mind, but somehow it works much better with my Speedmaster MkII. Wearing the watch on this strap has really transformed it for me.
If you have a vintage Mark II with aging indices a nice rustic brown leather, either two piece or nato, matches quite well (not my pics): If it's the modern variety either mesh or rallye is the way to go.
I went for a custom Toshi strap (https://toshi-straps.co.uk/) for my Mark II with service racing dial - and it matches very well...
