Speedy Mark II Racing 145.014 … rescue project

Hi,

some of you might have seen it in the bay … a probably beyond saviour Mk II racing.

Poor photos, no movement pics, poor description, poor condition with crystal broken (water inside??), and seller without Knowledge about this Watch (claimed it to be a full non-Runner).

Good thing: not Made-up for sale, seemed to be all original, original and long 1162 bracelet, dial & hands looked appealing. And you could see that the Minute and subdial second were in slightly different positions - so hope was that it is running.

So what can I say after the first check at home …
Case is used and will remain used, new crystal will be mounted. Pusher corroded so they were totally blocked.
Uncased the Movement: is clean without rust, and perfectly Running including chrono, resets to 0.
Dial is at 95%, black stain around the second subdial is prominent in the photos but hardly visible in real life. Will better leave as-is and not taking the risk to kill the dial.

I love it! 😀

That dial makes it all worth it! One on my short list for sure! Look forward to the after pics.

Love seeing when a watch comes back better than expected -- gives me hope that there are still diamonds in the rough out there. Interested to see how this one turns out as well -- please keep us posted on your progress!

Like your avatar too...I assume Colnago Super?

Unfortunately, not a Colnago. It is a Peugeot PBN 10 E from approx 1980, rather mid-range (advertised as „Trainings Rennrad“). But its all original except for the tires and brake-wires I changed for safety reasons

The bike color definitely matches the watch’s hands color!

It is a really nice watch. Please keep us updated!!!

I don’t mean to blaspheme, but it’s also a great candidate for a racing project … dial/lume looks great and it will certainly give pleasure either way 👍 Enjoy.

Looks like a very nice bike -- in my opinion there is something special about the ride of French lugged steel bikes from the 60s-80s. Thanks for sharing!

I think the Speedy would make a nice companion for timing your rides!

My older brother has been into cycling since he was about 12 years old. He spent every Saturday washing the neighbours cars in order to save up for his first racing bike. Eventually, after nearly two years, he had enough money to buy his dream bike, the production version of the Peugeot bike that Robert Miller used in the Tour de France. On his second trip out on his bike, he crashed it, head on, into a parked car. He came home with a mangled bike and a devastated heart. ( I thought it was hilarious that someone could crash into a parked car, but didn’t laugh too much when he said what happened, even I felt a bit sorry for him).
The bike looked like a total right off. Fortunately, my father’s cousin worked for Raleigh Bikes. My dad phoned him and explained what had happened. He told my dad to send the bike to him and he would see what he could do. Five weeks later my brother got his bike back, looking exactly like it did when he brought it home from the shop. I think it cost my dad a few pints, but it brought my brother thousands of hours of joy. Nearly 40 years later, he still has it, but the only things that are original are the handlebars and the frame.

It’s about the nice Stories connected to used items… Stories NOS items mostly lack.

unfortunately my watchmaker will need tiiiime to get this one sorted. Luckily, there are more cal1040 seamasters around with orange hands, or something completely unracing:

It‘s back after spa treatment

Full Revision of movement.
Case slightly refinished, crown and pushers replaced as I want to wear it and for this specific one I prefer water resistance over originality (of course, all replaced original parts still here …)
