Gents, what's your assessment of eBay item 161088184958, http://item.mobileweb.ebay.com/viewitem?itemId=161088184958Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=161088184958&globalID=EBAY-USPurchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network ive seen the watch in person, and the watch has an 861 and back case reads 142.022. Is this correct for he watch? Other thoughts? Thanks, Speedy friends! EDIT: I know my conclusion, but was hoping for unbiased input. Also corrected typo in model #.
Just a modified speedy pro. I don't know how he got the 3870.50 reference unless he knew it was such prior to modification. Otherwise a simple 3570.50
3870.50 is just a 3570.50 but with a strap instead of the steel bracelet. The watch in question looks like a standard Speedmaster and fitted with the Mitsukoshi Panda dial. The asking price is quite high IMO
Well it is strange as the 3870.50 series came a little later as the deployant is more of a 2000+ item with the push button style as typically the strap version for the Speedy Pro pre-2000 were reserved for good variants. I just find it strange he would reference that model for his watch description. The 861 movement is tell tale of a transition if the 145.0022 caseback is original otherwise a 145.022 caseback would make it a 3590. I've seen 3570 with the tritium dial but with an 1861 before but not an 861 movement.
apologies, but it's an .022, not a .0022 - I was typing from my phone earlier and only bc of your post did I notice my typo. Ao, a 3590 plus a separate bracelet, given the person's apparent interest in mods?
Sorry my post above said good when I meant gold. Yeah probably his thinking well if it didn't have a bracelet then it might be a 3870 but it is a 3590.50. I like the mod which is around a 550 including labor mod. Although having the original parts would be helpful it is a little high overall.
There appears to be no visible movement number on the case so I'm guessing this could be a pre '90's case or a replacement case?
The flatten ends of the back lugs suggest a more vintage piece or replacement case. A serial number would solve our questions
note that the it comes with inner and outer boxes, and manual, apparently, so maybe listing number came from the manual? Not that this is determinative. I didn't get to see these materials.
Picked up the franken-panda today. The box and manual (non-matching) were of no help. I re-confirmed that it's an 861, and with a #47,xxx,xxx -- and a 145022 case back. She's a wearer for a bit at least.
This was local for me, and I have a relationship with the seller. So, no, I didn't. Also, this seller deals in a lot of very high-end watches (aside from what's put up on eBay), and knows a good bit about all valuable watches, but not a ton about any particular brand. So, after a little education from me about this particular watch, I'm confident the seller would have subsequently adjusted the eBay description (and likely the price), had I not spared the seller the opportunity. If ever any of you see something from this seller you are interested in, I'm happy to take a look at it for you.
This is what makes the Speedmaster so versatile, you can take a standard Speedmaster, add a new dial and hands and create something very special
