So, my new watch finally arrived today :) It's from the limited series that was produced in 1989 with an engraving on the side. It goes without saying that it took a while to track one down! This one has lived most of it's life in sunny Australia. Compare the pic of it together with a 2014 speedy and you will notice that the dial and bezel have faded slightly to a nice chocolate brown. I think that the crystal isn't an omega original (the shape is slightly different and it sits less high than normal) i'll get that sorted at some point. The 1450 bracelet is in great condition. Your comments are welcome ;) speedy au 2.JPG speedy au 3.JPG speedy au 5.JPG speedy au 6.JPG speedy au 10.JPG speedy au 7.JPG

This is a nice watch, but it's not a limited edition. The LE one has the serial number engraved on the side and only 2000 were produced. I've seen quite a few of the LE for sale, it's not that hard to tracked one. This one even took a few months to sell recently:

Chuck answered about the 20th Apollo XI at the end of this link: http://chronomaddox.com/10th_Anniversary_Moonwatch.html

PS: It's probably limited to 4000 (Chuck may be not right), which is quite plenty more than the serial engraved edition (already plenty).

These were issued in 3 different series in 1989 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Apollo 11 first man on the moon landing. One series of 250 was made for the German market, another series of 2000 was made for the U.S. Market and the last series of 4000 was made for the rest of the world. This series is not numbered on the watch itself but is numbered on the certificate of authenticity.

    Very nice watch indeed!

I am quite surprise to see a brownish dial on this ref and at this period. I think it is the first time i see one....

Another batch of Anti-UV failure in the 80ies?

Hi Incabloc, wow you have the full set, i'm jealous! yours looks unworn ! I'm not sure about the coin, it's the 1st time that i've seen it...

This is the 1st limited edition that omega did, mine is from the international market. I'll post a pic from moonwatch only later on that explains the 3 different limited editions

The first LE is the Apollo XI 1969 'Tribute to Astronauts' yellow gold, prod of 1014.

Then the apollo-soyuz from 1976, then a yellow gold and white gold from the 80´s, then a special gold for Italy + 2 numbered series with display caseback.

Thus A11-20th was not the first LE

From the moonwatch only book, sorry it's in french! you will understand how many were produced for each market. It says at the start that this series marked the true beginning of the era of limited edition speedmasters but there were a few limited models that were produced before (so speedy4ever is right)
