"I am selling this watch for a friend of mine who tells me that he bought this watch from a NASA official many years ago. This NASA Official claimed that this exact watch was worn on the Moon. Unfortunately many years have passed and his name forgotten and their is no documentation to back up this story so. alas, it is just a story. A pretty good one though, eh?" Maybe it is Buzz Aldrin's missing Speedy :p

Also, I am pretty sure the ones worn on the moon were not stamped Tiffany & Co....

That ' T ' in Tiffany on the dial looks pretty fraudulent too. :cautious:

Report it. It's unsubstantiated bull shit that's being used to try to inflate the value of the watch. I sent it in as obscene language, because it is.

And I didn't think they had the word "professional" on the dial in 1966

There are 105.012-66's with Pro dials, that was the transition year, 65 is all pre-pro.

The 105.012s almost always have "professional" on the dial. I haven't seen one that didn't. There was a 105.012-63 on ebay recently that had "professonal" on the dial. The straight lug watches (ck 2915, ck 2998, 105.002 and 105.003) are the pre professional watches.

rather sad that they ruined an otherwise perfectly fine, and getting rarer, dial by scribbling Tiffany on it with a crayon...:(

That had to be a franken then. Omega didn't start putting "PROFESSIONAL" on the dial until after NASA made them their official space program watch in 1965.

Reported - I said if it was truly worn on the moon then it is NASA/US Government property and thus stolen from the Government.

Yup this is definitely correct, although I have seen one 105.012-63 with a pre Pro dial before. There are just too many good original examples out there for it not to be the case. I think the myth was started in the 'time capsule' book which is now seriously out dated.
My own 105.012-64 had never been serviced/opened and has a Professional dial too. Here's a crap picture of it as it arrived direct from the original owner who wore it through Vietnam and then put it in a drawer circa 1976:

It might be that the price was way too high, the claim that it was worn on the moon was over the top, and lastly the absolutely horrible Tiffany inscription that was put on in a druken stupor. I'll be it reappears. Ebay isn't too good about lifting listings. It's how they make their money.

Actually they are, IF there is good reason to do so. Unsubstantiated provenance isn't something eBay should be expected to police.

Every time a counterfeit item ends up in a buyers hands it's a black eye for eBay and likely a lost customer, so they do take counterfeit goods quite seriously, removing them when reported.

eBay has an entire department, Trust and Safety, devoted to counterfeit and misrepresented goods. But one needs to keep in mind the millions of items listed each day, counterfeit goods go a the top of reported items list.

Buyers have an equal if not greater responsibility to due diligence before placing a bid, clearly those buyers chose to ignore the excessive hyperbole in this listing.
