Speedy 3511.80?

I like the look of the 90s Japan market blue dial 3511.80, thinking about buying one. I'm new to older Omegas except the couple I've owned for years, before they were vintage.

Anything I should be aware of?

Speedy date with a 7750 movement. Easy to service nothing to be concerned about. Might have some parts that require an omega parts account but that’s standard

For some reason, many people seem to lump these with "reduced" Speedies (the models with the Dubois Dépraz chronograph module) and regard them as "lesser" Speedmasters. They are entitled to their opinions, and in the case of the reduced models may have a point when it comes to servicing.

However the 7750 derived date models are perfectly respectable and can hold their own against the FOIS and Moonwatch ranges (at least in my opinion). There is a pretty wide variety of models, the base movement is a proven workhorse and they don't cost the earth. Personally, the range contains the only Speedy that I might be interested in buying - the 3210.52, though ideally I'd look to see if it was feasible to replace the hands with white ones 😉

Thanks for the reply mouse, perfect. I've been searching for a 3511.80 in really good condition with a large enough bracelet to accommodate my 7"+ wrist. The ones from what seem to be trusted sights aren't in the condition I'd like. I'd guess it's a waiting game, although it's fun searching. Is watchvault NYC worth being on their waiting list? They've sold some great examples.

Some ramblings form a newbie

I have a "5" between latest and auctions that redirect me to our auctions, my guess is members are steering me to a good resource. All are sold, but I can follow the sellers. Thanks guys (and gals)

I'm active on other forums, I know the perspective from experienced members, I'm one. I've done forum searches, read and searched the web, I just don't have a feel for this market and I get the feeling there are lots of not so trustworthy places. Are there a handful of good places? I want this particular model in good shape and don't mind paying more than market, just for peace of mind. I know there are nice 3511.80s out there, I've found too many sold ads that would have been perfect.

Willing to wait for the right one though.......

On the guitar forum I'm on, we have a term GAS, guitar acquisition syndrome, can I expect to suffer from WAS here? If so, at least watches take up far less room.

After searching a while, I found a 3511.80 I liked and bought it. A few days later I found a 3311.10 and bought it too. Prices were good, both polished but in good condition and both had bracelets over 7" long. Both were from eLady, bought through Ebay. How'd I do?

As Tom Petty said, waiting is the hardest part. To prove it happened;

As far as I know, eLady has a pretty good reputation for supplying quality stock at reasonable prices and also a fair and reasonable returns policy. Enjoy your new purchases and don't let anyone tell you they ain't real Speedmasters 👍

I just bought a 1995 3511.20 (white) and love it - perfect size for my just under ~7 in. wrist - and honestly the bracelet is gorgeous as well...

I have the exact one with champagne dial and 18k gold bezel! This is a great watch I wear as a daily beater. I have a small wrist so Moonwatch was not an option for me from the beginning. The 7750 is pretty decent and can be serviced without any problems. The only question I read from some sources - is it's wobbling, but that don't bother me at all. So this is a great watch! Congrats!
