Hmm decided to watch it. However 3900 pounds is not interesting. Especially nog considering current pound/euro exchange rate..

Jeez. Sold for £3,900 to a phone bidder. Plus commission, which takes it to £4,680 total.
Without wishing to trash a watch that someone who might be reading here has just shelled out for, it seems that they've just spent $7,250USD on a watch head with a movement in it.

Not sure what an original set of 2998 hands and dial would sell for, but I'd imagine it'd be a couple of $k? Add a period strap and that's a $10k watch.

If the proper dial and hands are located for the watch it is a $10,000 watch.

Don't forget a lot of 105.003 owners will pay handsomely for that dial to offset some of the cost b

Yeah, that's true. Or you could possibly find a tidier 2998 that didn't need so much effort to return it to original state, for not a lot more...

Can a proper dial and hands be found for the difference, even factoring in the sale of the currently installed dial?

No guarantees if the goal is to complete the watch but this watch is the of the most value as a parts source for the collector looking to upgrade 2-3 speedmasters already in the collection. There are several collectors out there who have dozens of vintage speedmasters.

I've been searching for a 2998 dial for a few months. They are HARD to find.

What if you sent it to Omega? Do they have replacement dials and hands for a 2998? Or do you end up with a non applied logo dial and white hands?

I absolutely have no idea. I know Rolex still has almost all parts like dials with flat markers albeit with super luminova instead of radium/ tritium.

The replacements will be modern replacements. The original vintage dials and hands for this and 99.9% of vintage models pre-1960 are long gone.

In any case, I think it is a lot of money for some parts put together.

I know the vintage parts are gone.

But are the replacement parts vintage style? Like leaf hands or are they just normal speedie hands. That's what i was asking ;-)

Was anyone in the business in the early Nineties?

No leaf hands but even if they were similar to the vintage watches there is no extra value in them for the collector.
