I saw this watch come up for auction and it looks a bit iffy to me - [IMG]

The hands are obviously new, but the dial looks suspect - it's supposed to be a 2998-61 but it has T SWISS Ts and the markers by the 12 o'clock make me think it's a dial from a 105. The strap looks like it's probably after market too. Are there any other gotchas?

Wrong dial, wrong hands and yes the bracelet is incorrect or at best has incorrect end links.

If you get it for the estimate, absolutely.

I seriously doubt it'll go for that ;-)

A 2998-61 should have alpha hands, and that chrono second hand is wrong. Too short for one. The dial is wrong, shouldn't have T's.

If you're looking for a keeper, this ain't it.

Movement number is 18946039 so looks correct, case and back may be ok so could be a decent parts buy if it's within the estimate.
I can't help thinking, though, that an internet buyer will look at the picture of the case back, see 2998-61 and pay a lot of money.

It's a decent parts buy at 3-4x the estimate!

I think the case back looks to have been engraved so that's probably a write-off. I for one, will not be buying but it will be interesting to see what it goes for :)

Movement alone is already worth at least the upper limit of the estimate.

It should be, though I'm not quite sure what the serial number reads. Now that it looks like an assembly job, that could be a 321 of any vintage...

No the number is 18946039 so makes it '61/'62 and looks correct.

You've got better eyes than me then. To me, it could just as easily read 18742939, which would date the movement too early for a -61.
