Speedy 145.022-76 Evaluation

There have been some really good discussions recently on market values and condition on Speedmasters. I am learning to compare and evaluate in hopes of getting one in the future. I try to watch different for sale options to see the outcome. I guess we are sort of in a transition phase where the market value is declining but there are still higher asking prices and some sell at those higher prices while other sit. This one recently sold for $5850.00 on the bay. It sort of surprised me. The condition is not very attractive to me. I don't think there is anything special about the model. 1171 bracelet. It did say there was an EoA. Am I missing something? What do you guys think?

I agree with your assessment. Obviously I’m making assumptions based on a single photo but I’d say that’s a grand above market.

You have to ask, did it really sell?

Quite a lot of transactions are fraudulent. The seller underbidding for example.

This watch might be ok, but the dial is not possible to asses on the photos.

I found the original listing, and the seller is one I think I know, and might have had dealings with. He is from Canada which might account for the price if its a local sale. I was going to say it was a shill bid, that got caught holding the lot, but if it is who I think it is, then he wouldn't do that.

So I am left with the assumption that two Canadian bidders didn't want the hassle of importing.

As another comparison, I recently sold this 145.022-74 which is effectively the same, but it’s much more attractive and has just had a full service with 2 years warranty for several hundred leas.
