There are a couple of interesting Speedmasters coming up for auction next week if anyone is interested. I might have been tempted but the timing is wrong for me, but maybe somebody here will want to have a go. There is a cosmetically decent 1963 105.003, although they do say the chrono isn't working properly http://m.bonhams.com/auctions/19807/lot/209A/?list_search_query=1&lang=en_us&back_to_year=2003&sale_no=19807&limit=9999&query=omega speedmaster&create_facets=False and a Mk II with an uncommon tachy ring. This one was pointed out to me by the dealer who apparently got it verified as a correct watch. http://m.bonhams.com/auctions/19807/lot/209/?list_search_query=1&lang=en_us&back_to_year=2003&sale_no=19807&limit=9999&query=omega speedmaster&create_facets=False Link to whole auction brochure: http://m.bonhams.com/auctions/19807/59078/ It would be nice to know if anyone on here does give a loving home to any of these strays
The 105.003 is really good looking, maybe too good to be original. Nice to have a pre-Professional model though.
Just figure if someone had put effort into cleaning it up, they'd have fixed the chronograph at the same time... wonder how broken it is
They say it "isn't operating correctly" and the picture shows the minute timer hasn't returned to zero. Possibly that is what they mean ? If anyone is in the UK, it can be inspected before the auction.
Nice find! The 105.003 could be good with that original bracelet too. Shame I won't be in London until the following week or I'd check it out.
Just having a look through the auction results. The Speedy went for £1875: http://www.bonhams.com/auctions/19807/lot/209A/ which seems a pretty decent catch for someone, even if it needs a service to correct the chrono. The Mk II with the rare tachy ring went for £1500: http://www.bonhams.com/auctions/19807/lot/209/ A pretty nice Dynamic went cheap at £306: http://www.bonhams.com/auctions/19804/lot/166/ . I'd have liked to have had a chance to look at that one & check it out properly. Mind you, they also had another Dynamic which went at £1125 (http://www.bonhams.com/auctions/19807/lot/164/?page_anchor=m1=1) I don't like the cases on these, but it looks like it had the box & tags. Presumably, it was the original box for it to sell at that price.
Over here Dynamics tend to go for £500-800, even if they're redialled or in very average condition. I'm guessing that the expensive one had the original "pencil case" style box & tags, which are pretty hard to come by.
Dynamics are cool watches, I really think the early ones, especially the 5xx series models are pretty undervalued
