I'm interested in a bi-compax automatic Speedmaster, one of the latest 93xx iterations.

I am hesitating between the Moonwatch Moonphase Co-Axial Master Chronometer ref 304.33.44.52.03.001, the Moonwatch Co-axial in titanium with blue dial ref 311.90.44.51.03.001 and the Speedmaster '57 ref 331.10.42.51.03.001 also blue dial or even black dial ref 331.12.42.51.01.001.

Which one should I go for? Help me decide! This would be my first ever Speedy.

Number 1 all the way. All great pieces but look at the first picture, that reference is beautiful. What a dial

For me it's the moonphase 100%, however I'd probably go with the black version as think it's a little more versatile than the blue.

I'd go with #2 but in black. Love that date window!

Love the titanium of number 2. Very light and comfortable.

Moonphase for sure. It's a big chunky watch, but super versatile. That dial is one of the best Omega has ever made.

I would agree. Here is the moonphase next to my Gemini4 for comparison. It was thicker than the typical speedy, but not too thick. I would prefer a bracelet on this one however.

What this thread should make you want is the Gemini 4 thanks to Taddy heh. I've tried the moonphase a couple times.... Very nice indeed but things like the crab claw and dimensions held me back. I have the gsotm and I still think that's the one for me in the thicker/bigger speedy game.

To the OP, I have to pick the blue moonphase out of your choices like everyone else.. Amongst those choices it's not close.

    Moonphase of course.

That's the one that I personally would get...I'm also an amateur astronomer and to me personally, I think it would be a great tool to help me plan my observing session. Definitely will get it someday. BTW I had a G Shock Gulfman with moon phase and tide phase, used the moon function all the time. I lost it and haven't replaced it yet.

Yep. If he had asked, "I want the best Speedmaster ever made. Which one should I go for? Help me decide! This would be my first ever Speedy."

I would have answered as follows:

I'll add one more vote for the Moonphase. Incredibly comfortable on the wrist and absolutely gorgeous! My preference is for the black dial.

For me, the black dial 331.12.42.51.01.001, followed closely by the moon phase, blue dial.

I like the subtle red on the moon phase. The other blue dial is OK, but there's too much red.

    Tough choice! Good luck!

Another vote for the Blue Moon, as long as we're choosing from the options presented here

Thanks guys for your comments. I think there's no question the moonphase dial is very striking and beautiful. So from a beauty contest perspective, I also think it's the winner.

I intend to use the Speedy to time the daily commute while driving to work (three possible routes) and I value high legibility of the chronograph function while driving. Can anyone recommend the best Speedy with this criteria only, out of the entire Omega current offering ?

Just saw (Thursday evening) the blue moonphase / blue strap at Omega Duty Free Toronto (near gate E80). Stunning...blue much richer/darker than the press photos (12.500 CAD retail)...certainly the best option in the OP's list above. I saw the black dial version on bracelet and strap at the Nashville OB three weeks ago, and I have to say the blue dial version generated a more emotional response. Toronto Duty Free also had the meteorite dial version "GSOTM" ...gorgeous and much more balanced and elegant than any of the live press photos I have seen so far.

Well to answer the OP's question on legibility I would wait for one of the new Basel 2017 Racing versions to be available as they have larger sub-dials and apparently (based on a few blog post reviews I have seen so far) will wear better on the wrist than any of the above options.

Great idea, kind of fits what I'm after, with larger subdials and thinner case. A shame they put black chrono hands on a black subdial on the first one, not my idea of legible. The rest of the models are hit and miss in terms of color combo, maybe the grey dial with orange chrono hands, or black dial with orange chrono hands. Not sure, I think they didn't get the colours right on these.
