Those instructions will in now way guarantee that Omega won’t insist on replacing those parts. They will not leave them if they feel they have any chance of the watch coming back under warranty.

Archer makes a good point. Rather than entrusting the watch to Omega, it would be better to use an independent watchmaker who will limit the work to performing a movement service and addressing the moisture issue.

I just dropped my 145.022 off for an overhaul. I decided against sending it in for the reasons listed in this thread. I was quoted $575, plus parts, which I'm told usually run about $100. This is from a reputable independent dealer in Portland, OR.

I serviced my Speedmaster at omega and you have to be very specific about what you don’t want to be replaced (+1 to those guys who recommended that) as they replaced all sorts of goodies on mine 🙁 100% worth servicing that beauty! Shop around there’s so many great options near New York

Any Australian recommendations for a good independent. Both my Speedmaster and PO are due. I was under the impression independents could not get parts anymore? Stock?.

Watchmakers that are certified by Omega can access parts. In fact no watchmakers were cut off by Omega at the end of 2015 as a result of the policy change, it was the parts resellers that were cut off. If you have a direct relationship with Omega, you were not affected, but if you only bought from the resellers, you are now out of luck.

I though Omega just raised service prices?
Price is still $750, with parts still included. In my -71, lots of parts! They did make me buy a new dial, for another $250. My plan is to have the original dial& hands relumed, and retrofit them back on my watch.

My Speedmaster 4.5 is at Beinne. $750 for the service plus parts (in this case $200) plus shipping, plus tax. Currently $1045 and it has been 100 days. There most recent update says service may conclude in mid October

This is an interesting picture...

If I add up just the parts I can easily identify, at retail costs they total over $1300.

I'm sure the internal cost of parts is much less, but considering there's labour to be accounted for here, I'm going to say there's a good chance they did this service at a loss. But for them this is not a big problem, because they will do many other services that more than make up for watches like this.

So much waste in a factory service...seeing this drives me crazy.

Probably nothing wrong with the barrel - they just replace the whole thing instead of opening it and replacing the mainspring to make the job go faster, and waste perfectly good parts as a result. The barrel and wheel train bridge likely has a worn hole where the barrel arbor goes into it (common) and I repair these with a bushing all the time...that's $400 of the parts right there that could easily be repaired.

Parts replacers rather than watchmakers...

Cheers, Al

Could be worse. At least Omega didn’t charge you round trip airfare for a first class seat on Swissair for the watch ...

Here’s a better breakdown photo of the parts. I flipped a few pieces over.
