When reviewing the Speedmaster101 serial number reference chart, I noticed a gap between the transition from ref 145.022-68 to- 69. What’s your take on the significance of watches whose serial numbers fall in between? Are we just missing data on this interval?

Have you looked at the moonwatchonly.com serial number tables? I think they are the current gold standard. I would give you a link but the website is not loading for me at the moment.

I have the book and again noticed a gap between the serial numbers between these two references.

I believe that some cal 861 movements were used in non-Speedmaster chronographs, e.g. Seamasters. Do you think that could account for the gap? Or as you say, possibly it is just a lack of documentation.

The non-Speedmaster chronographs from that era seem to share the same serial number ranges as their Speedy counterparts. I suspect the information is lacking as I have a ref 145.022-68 with a 2808XXXX number. I'm curious if any on this forum have Speedmasters whose serial number falls between 2771XXXX - 2842XXXX. I never got around to getting an extract.

If you get an extract, I imagine that the MWO authors would appreciate the information.

Sorry I missed this thread first time around.

For what it’s worth, my 145.022-69’s movement serial number is 28428149

Back when we were developing the statistical approach to estimating production date I collected a little over 100 speedmaster serial numbers through internet searches and from forum members. I've just looked back at that data set and there's a gap between 2732xxxx and 2842xxxx. @eugeneandresson will have a bigger dataset now.

I found this thread searching for those about Speedmaster serial numbers.

BTW for bystanders, another thread from last year offered this valuable link, particularly as to 321 numbers, which has become an interest of mine.

It’s well worth repeating for those who haven’t stumbled on it yet.

I’m fascinated by the overlaps between the 105.003s and 105.012s and what it might suggest about Omega’s Speedmaster production in the second half of the 60’s.
