I was looking at purchasing a Speedmaster online. The photo shows the serial number 53996325. From all the tables I search, the 53,XXX,XXX info is for ‘91 but it doesn’t appear to be for a Speedmaster. I can’t find the 53 for a Speedmaster. Should I be worried about the number or am I over-thinking it. It’s from a trusted online seller and everything else seems to check out. Thoughts?

It's probably a reduced or date (Japanese market), but the only way we'll actually know is if you post a photo of the dial.

It’s a Speedmaster date from the early 90s

Here a few of mine. The last one is getting serviced and the hands addressed.

Thank you very much for taking the time to help. Do you see the hands in my photo? I’m taking it in for service as soon as I get it. Is there anything I can do specifically to the hands to improve their appearance? They look similar to your 3rd photo.

I really need clearer photos of your hands to see if there's a problem but I think it's fine. Mine has the wrong chrono seconds, corrosion and bad lume.
    Here's another example

Thanks again for sending these over. Let’s just say there is corrosion and/or weak lume. Is there anything I can do about it?

It’s tritium lume. It no longer works. No way to fix it and keep it original. You can re lume it with luminova or see if omega has new replacement hands with luminova.

Thank you. I’d rather leave it original than re-lume or replace.

I don't use them. I figure I'm capable of setting and winding in a few seconds.
