Wondering if this one has been relumed at some stage. Seller says its been in a drawer for 30 years & has an optimistic view of price, but I can't make my mind as to whether the lume has been refreshed at some point.

    Any opinions?

Can't tell from photo. Doubt it. But for $6500 us it is irrelevant to me.

At this rate, I may never be able to get a pre-moon speedy. I really hope he doesn't anywhere near his asking price.

There's a lot of crazy prices on these at the minute. I've made him an offer of what I think it's actually worth.

This is the seller's best picture of the dial. Not a regular watch seller judging by the other items for sale, so I'm not surprised he's attached a bonkers price on the BIN.

I've got a couple of others in my sights too, so we'll see what happens :whistling:

    Hi

I've spoken to the Seller re this one....it's a lovely example IMHO....matching serial on the movement too. Unfortunately , massively overpriced and rather than be seen to low ball & upset him , I withdrew from the negotiations....I'd also be careful re the payment terms he requires.

    Best - Neil

Cheers Neil. He's in Brighton, so I would definitely collect in person & do the transaction that way - if he thinks my offer is ok.

That said, I can see he's rejected 2 other offers already & judging by what you've said I doubt he'll be too impressed with what I've offered

Nice looking watch, but it's maybe worth half the asking price.

Often enough, a bid of half of BIN is ok, has happened to me several times. As an economist I find it very interesting why people tend to stick to double the market value for their BINs???
Why not triple? (though that is sometimes seen...) ;-)

Me too, and I know the same has happened with a few members / mods.

I say why not half? Or a third? ;) :p

There is some research on the effect of the first price in "framing" the negotiation and having a measurable effect on the final price. Basically if you ask for a massively inflated price (or a ridiculous low ball) it is shown to drag the final price towards it in the outcome most times.

Not sure why people choose double although I'd speculate its probably the furthest most people think they can go without causing all prospective buyers to just ignore the item altogether.

Anyway this item has finished with no buyers and he didn't respond to my offer. I have another bid in elsewhere, so will see how things play out.

Exactly! Because now you're thinking "gee, I can't offend them and offer less than x", whereas maybe 1/4 of the BIN is a fair price. Time to re-frame!

Don't want to stray too far off-topic, but the most useful course I took in B-school was a negotiation class (framing was one of the concepts). I tell everyone I know (and like) to read "Getting to Yes" and "Negotiation Genius"; easy reads but really useful stuff that I find myself using all the time (including my first Omega purchase):

    http://www.amazon.com/Negotiation-G...1358263975&sr=8-1&keywords=negotiation+genius
    http://www.amazon.com/Getting-Yes-N...qid=1358263991&sr=8-1&keywords=getting+to+yes

For $20 and a few hours of reading you won't regret it, I promise.

Getting To Yes and Getting Past No are both really useful. We give them to our juniors as part of their training.

Anyway, my bid on the other watch just came through & I won the auction at approx 40% of the BIN on this one & less than I had offered him :)

I think the lume is original on that one. The nicest 105 or 145.012 speedmasters I have seen have lume that looks like it was applied yesterday and still glows for a few seconds in the dark. I think this is one of those watches - the rest of it looks pretty nice. While I agree the seller's price is a bit too high, IMO it is worth less but certainly not 50% less. If the price was in the vicinity of $4000 I don't think it would be a bad purchase. As many know, it is quite difficult to find 321 speedmasters in very nice condition and I think this is one of those.

$ 2700 for a 1967 model is not that cheap......
