I read somewhere that the Speedmaster reduced got it's name because it has a reduced number of complications. Compared to other Speedmaster automatics, it doesn't have a date. I can't remember where I read it. Is this something that sounds reasonable or it it completely bull?

After all, it's very different from the normal Speedmaster but it seems most think it got it's name just because it's smaller.

    Cheers,
    Ketil

How does it have a reduced number of complications from a Speedmaster Professional? The only complication on a Speedy is the chronograph, so a reduced amount of complications leaves you with a simple three handed watch !

The reduced is, as far as I know, the only Speedmaster automatic without a day/date.

Was this in response to changing watch size trends or heavens forbid an attempt to sway female buyers into the fold?

This watch was launched far before monstrous size trend. IIRC At that time 38 mm was sufficiently big and filling the need of segment who think 42 mm Speedy pro was just too big.

Kinda strange the whole watch diameter trend thing. 42mm too big?? or were peoples wrists skinnier then (very likely I would think)
