Speedmaster Racing - thoughts

I was bumming around the classifieds here and Internet, and I came across the Speedmaster model
326.32.40.50.06.001 which is the automatic 3300 movement in black with yellow highlights. I've never seen it in the wild, so no telling if I'll really like it, but from pictures I think it's pretty neat and has more visual interest than the typical rather monochrome Speedy.

Obtainable from numerous Internet sellers, new, for around $3000 US so that's fairly reasonable, I think.

Thoughts, feedback, suggestions?

I own one, purchased it like a month ago and I love it!

Pros:

- Look expensive and Sporty at the same time
- Change the bracelet if dressing and will also look fantastic
- Automatic ( no need to manually charge it )
- It change color! Depending on the angle you are looking at it, it might look dark, or gray, or with a tone of blue
- 100 Meter water resistance
- Yellow!!!! Yellow color!!! lol

Cons:

- None, 0, nada

That particular one is no longer available new from Omega, so if you find one new buy it now before it to late jaja

Posting some pics of mine in a few minutes

I prefer the old Reduced Schumacher variants with the modular movement. The dial design is an acquired taste on those models however.

It is also not apparent from images that the new Racing models are fat watches, around 3 mm thicker than the old Reduced (11 - 12 mm) - pretty much the same thickness as its big brother 1861, and this has a flat sapphire crystal instead of domed hesalite.

That and the date complication put me off. As far as I see it, Omega's modern replacement for the Reduced is inferior on the elementary metrics. I also care little for CoAx - in fact, I consider it a negative as it makes the user reliant on Omega for service.

I think the deployment band is nice and fancy though!

I would pay a little more and get the modern Speedy Racing with the 9900. The smaller 6 o'clock subdial would bother the hell out of me on this one.

I loved the look. I don't have it anymore...it was very small on my wrist. 7.7" wrist.

COSC easy to service movement is not as good as non COSC modular movement?

There is no right or wrong here. I'm not poopoo-ing OP, just stating my preferences. One of my main criteria for a <= 40mm chronograph movement is that it should be slim. I mean, the Daytona is 12 mm - this is 15 mm? Is Omega trying to one-up Panerai?

I don't care about COSC - outside of a niche within a niche of watch buyers I don't think anybody does. If I wanted accuracy, I'd get a HAQ, Quartz or if I wanted that silky smooth sweep, Spring Drive.

Cal 1140/1143/3220 have 30 years of history as reliable workhorse movements. I don't care how easy it is for my independent to service, as long as they charge the same price (they do) and can get parts for it.

Hi, apologies for hijacking the thread. @mjb did you end up buying it?
Been long lusting and about to pull the plug on this model (~$2600 for a new one).
I really liked the aesthetics (grey/yellow combo) and the sporty band. The actual pictures above by @ranger052 look even cooler.
However, my wife finds it a bit kitschy so I plan to source a bracelet / leather strap for when I need to dress-up.
- Is this a good idea? Is there a reason why this model has not been successful and is now discontinued.
- can anyone tell me the part number for compatible steel bracelet. I know the deployant clasp is # 94521873 if I go leather.

Hope this omega-virgin can get some pragmatic advise.

I did not. I really prefer to see one in person before I spend that kind of coin, and the more I looked at it, the more the little subdials bothered me, didn't care for the date complication which I feel does not belong on a Speedmaster. So I bought a Dark Side of the Moon Speedy, which is a Breitling-like 44mm in ceramic also with yellow highlights. Fabulous watch...

... which I sold 6 months later because it was just too big. Shoulda bought the racing. LOL

Thanks! I don’t really mind the smaller subdial...it doesn’t look a design flaw or make the dial too busy IMO. Beauty is in the eyes of beholder I guess.
