Looks like I won't be buying any watches until next March, but that doesn't mean I can't play with my existing collection....

What are folks thoughts on modding a Speedy pro 2015, with a Mark II Japanese racing dial.

Does it fit and what examples do you have? What hand combo works well?

Here's the type of thing I'm considering (but in better condition)

Are you going to put a MKII dial on a regular speedy pro?

That's what I was hoping was possible, yes.

It's possible AFAIK, because MKIIs used cal 861 and that's compatible with cal 1/861 in the speedy pros. What hands combo are you thinking of?

I'm wondering if my 2015 will have an 1861? I'll have to check later. Although I do have an 80s 861 that I could use I'd prefer not too.

No thoughts on hands. A quick google shows orange is popular but wondering if anyone has other examples that work well.

If it's from 2015 it should be a 1861, it should work.

I've done mods with the Gemini dial and the Mitsukoshi dial. For the racing dial I would opt to emulate the MKII racing edition or the speedy pro Japan LE. I can give you some ideas if you're up for considering Gemini/Mitsukoshi.

Already have a Mitsukoshi mod and I love it -(I have the CK2998 alpha hands on that one).

I'm leaning towards the racing dial as I let my kids choose the watch I wear during the week and they love orange. I expect it'll get a lot of wrist time!

I see, that's good to hear! Good thinking.

How about something like this? I love the red tip!

Since you're using a MKII dial:

I prefer the orange second and subdials hands. And I think the dial looks very sharp on the Base 1000 silver bezel!

Not sure about the MarkII hour and minute - but it is a genuine look..

Here's the classic racing look with the silver bezel-

Is this one too orange for you?

    Hmmm that's toughie!

Ever seen silver hour : minute hands with the orange subdials/seconds?

Nope- haven't seen that combo anywhere. I think the silver subdial hands would go well with the steel bezel. Otherwise without the steel bezel it would provide too much contrast IMO.

Yes any speedy pro hands will work. No issues with a dial from any 861 swapping with a 1861
