Dear wise ones I have two speedmasters in my collection the later one has paperwork from the sale in 1990 however the serial number 48256xxx dates it to mid 80's I believe however I believe it has a dn90bezel ,the same as my earlier 1971 but according to speedy 101 they stopped using that bezel in 1978 Any thoughts guys? thanks for looking in advance Tony
According to the charts I've seen, your serial number dated about 1990. Can't answer the bezel question.
Looks like two vintage 70s bezels to me. You could buy a modern one for the later watch and sell the second vintage one. They are worth some money these days.
They didn't stop using that bezel in 1978, it continued to the 1980s also. It's possible your watch was made in the 80s but remained unsold until 1990. My money would be on the bezel being original to the watch, but an extract would clear up your date question.
My information on these DN90 bezels is blurry as to when they stopped being fitted. It's only recently we all began to care, and therefore value, the dropped serif DO90. (DO90DS???) To throw some weird info into the mix, I have seen 48m serials on watches that had been serviced by omega during the brief time when the swapped the whole movement. Obviously not what I think happened here. Nice watches.
I'd go along with the idea of an archive extract for the one with the paperwork. If it doesn't match up with the bezel date range then sell it and get the correct one for the watch. You should end up with a profit.
I think people quite often use the general Omega table which is actually not relevant to the Speedmaster family as far as I could find out. The Speedmaster specific table can be found here : http://chronomaddox.com/romans.html Besides this, there are some 4800xxxx-48240xxx references being listed by Omega as 1985-1989 serials, again, according to my research.
