Yes, It could be, but I see it as a sign that over hyped, zero real interest, made up storied watches are weakening. This is not a speedmaster, per se, and the prototype moniker is only in delivery, and does not appear to have any unique features (or did i miss it?) And there is interesting patinated condition, and there is this, which I do not find attractive.. I will call a weakening on the Speedmaster market when lovely examples start to sell for less than 12 months ago - as yet this is not the case, but the market has been clouded recently with a lot of sub-fair examples offered by flippers for prices about 20-30% too high. I for one am still happy to pay for a watch that is attractive. Fine examples of Speedmasters continue to fetch strong prices, and not through Auctions, now that people have finally woken up to the 30% the Auctions take out of the total sale price.
Jesus christ. I'd have bought it for that or more! Clearly a good time to buy some of these older speedmasters. i'm just so surprised at the price. If this was a Rolex or Patek... it would be 6 figures.
