When I forgot to stop my chronograph I six hours later noticed the watch had lost five minuters.
I magnetism a possible reason or is something wrong?

I mean it could be any number of things. How old is the watch, what’s the service history, etc?

Assuming you bought it from a boutique or AD and have warranty, I would take it in to the boutique and get them to check it. In my experience, for all the talk of magnetising a watch, you have to work really hard to mess it up that badly.

Yes, I do have warranty. Most afraid its going for two months service or repair work.

I maybe placed it next to my phone when I was at a flight security station.

Magnetism usually runs fast.

Also what was the wind state, full or towards the end.

Many do leave the chronograph running for a lot longer than 6 hours, I have timed some 18 hour long haul flights with no issue.

You’re overthinking things. If a Speedy can’t handle being next to a phone then everyone’s speedy would be off. I’ve had my Speedies in bags for hours with magnetic pockets, pulled them out going “Shit, I forgot about the magnets” and never had a problem. A phone will do nothing of note.

If you’re really worried about magnetism then buy an demagnetiser (search threads here for recommendations) but I have one and stopped using it years ago.

There’s no getting away from it, you’ll have to take the watch in and be away from it for a while. Nobody will be able to diagnose the issue here from the info we have. Last time I dropped one of mine in with Omega it was back with me within a week.

Fully wind the watch in the morning, put the chrono on at work and turn it off when you finish.
Do this for a few days and see how you go. Record your findings

As you need a history to be able to explain if you take it in.

Did you happen to reset the time just before you noticed the five minute loss? Because the most common reason a watch suddenly gains or loses exactly five minutes (or 10, or an hour) is that it wasn’t set properly to begin with, and you don’t notice until later. So reset the watch, make sure it is set properly (e.g., take a photo of it in front of the home screen for time.gov, and compare times), then let it sit and see if it happens again.

if it doesn’t, then there isn’t a problem - you set it wrong.

If it does, there is a problem and it needs to be sorted out by a watchmaker.

I think we have all set the time and then discover it was 5 or 10 minutes off, or perhaps an hour due to a slipup when setting the watch. As others have said set it to the correct time, wind it up and wear it normally for a few days. You will probably be fine.
