Have 3 which are all 18mm (polished, brushed and one polished with the Omega symbol in 18k gold) and all of them are curved.

I just popped by the boutique, and we compared it to the Speedmaster in the case. Mine is definitely different. They didn't have another one in stock, so the manager ordered a replacement. Hopefully, it won't take too long. Thanks for the info and support!

Glad it's well on its way to get sorted!

Good news. The OB called and my replacement has arrived. I popped by, had it installed, and all is well now. Thanks everyone.

Out of interest what is the actual part number of the alligator strap. I cant see anything embossed on my
311.33.42.30.01.001 (pictured already on this thread). Thanks in advance for any information.

From what I was told by the manager at the OB, the 16mm clasp (which is original to the Speedmaster Pro) is polished, whereas the 18mm version comes either all brushed or a combination of brushed/polished finish.

Weird that they would say that as I'm pretty sure the strap Speedies come with a 20/18 clasp.

Nice to see a fellow Arizonan checking in, although I'm a bit further to the south down Chandler way. 👍

That is incorrect. The model 311.33.42.30.01.001 comes with the 20/16 strap and the 16mm clasp. The exact combination is 94521613 clasp with 98000008 strap. The strap is matte black alligator, and they also make a gloss black alligator as well - I have one for dressier styles, but I don't know the model number off hand.

So, was that a defective one?
Glad to hear that you got a replacement for that though.
I saw the post somewhere else that this guy was asking of his newly bought SMP's bezel moving bi-directional with a proof video.
These kind of defects must not be found by a customer.

I'm surprised that the strap Speedmaster model comes with a 20/16 strap. When I bought my Speedmaster in Geneva two years ago (bracelet) the boutique gave me an Omega deployant buckle and Omega strap as part of the deal, it was a 20/18 strap with an 18mm buckle, I assumed that that was the standard fitment for the watch as it usually makes more sense to have a wider buckle on a sport watch to better secure it. The transaction you describe here is a different situation than "what comes with the watch." In other words, what came with YOUR watch is different than what comes with the factory set from Omega.

You purchased an accessory along with the watch purchase, the accessory was not an original item included in the complete factory set. While it's true that most straps made by Omega to fit the Speedmaster's 20mm lugs are 20/18mm the strap they supply in the factory set is not.

And there's no difference between the 16 and 18mm in terms of security, so either is fine to support a "sport" watch. If anything the biggest preference will depend on aesthetics - the 4mm taper is more formal/traditional, while the 2mm taper is more sporty/contemporary. The "standard fitment" is whatever fitment you prefer, but the "standard" included item in the particular model mentioned is the 20/16.

I know my situation is different, I was just surprised that an 18mm buckle wasn't the standard choice for this watch from the factory. 16mm deployant buckles today are less common than 18mm buckles across the industry. Perhaps since they started with the 16mm in the past they have just stayed with that buckle to avoid confusion and to keep things traditional. It's not a big deal, just a curious choice today.

As you say there would seem to be a lot more 20/18 straps compared to 20/16 but I haven't looked at the Omega strap catalogue in quite awhile to see what the selections are for each size. I suppose it is something to keep in mind if one is buying a deployant buckle after the fact.
