Hi all, I've spotted this for sale. I'm a total noob so maybe you could help me out. I'm not sure if this is the right road for me to go down especially as I have no serial number, just this one photo to go on. There is rust showing on the dial and the movement is seized/broken with a pusher button missing. Is it worth saving? What's it worth? And how deep would my pockets need to be to have this restored? Worse case scenario. Thanks
It appears that due to the missing pusher plenty of water got into the movement. I would stay away from it unless it is sub $500 or .......
That is some rust! I would expect it is easier to use a replacement movement, than to start repairing this.
Looks like they fished it out of a river. I wouldn't touch it. Could it be salvaged? Maybe, but may cost you more than the watch is worth and you will be left with a de facto franken.
holy guacamole....You take this on you in a world of hurt. unless it's 300-500 pounds...Even then you'll easily stick in an additional 1000 pounds...you could offset some costs by selling the bracelet. Don't do it unless you're willing to commit. How much does the seller want anyway?
Surprisingly the dial and hands look quite nice. Case and bracelet also have some value but that movement.....!
It's on auction, estimate is 1000eur but that doesn't mean much. Appreciate all the replies. How much could a replacement 861 movement cost? I would fit a leather strap, not a fan of chainmail. I guess I would be happy if it came in at under 1500eur for purchase, repairs after selling the bracelet. At least it doesn't look like a redial!
That's a lot of money for a messed up watch from the 80's.... If it was pre 74 maybe , maybe 1000 at a push...For 1500 and a little patience you could get yourself a very nice Mark II.
I asked for more pics and the auctioneers sent them within an hour. And I decided within a minute that I wouldn't bid on this one.
I'd love to have something like this, and wear it to a get-together, and try to keep a straight face as everybody looks at it. Needless to say, clear caseback to showcase the movement would be a plus! "My uncle left this to me in his will. Is it worth anything?"
