I couldn't sleep, so I was strolling the web. Suddenly I remembered the late Chuck Maddox' website and saw this. I almost started to cry.
Look at the prices of the vintage Speedmasters in 2001!

and the economists keep on telling us there is no inflation...
what do you say about the development of the prices?

I was wasting my money in 2001.
If I had any thoughts about watches it would have been about the Tag Heuer Kirium that my mates had already had for years. It took me until 2008 to finally get the Tag. Just used my phone in the meantime. Not sure I even had mobile phone in 2001.

When I finally got 'into' watches in 2009 it took me about two weeks of joining forums before buying my first 321 Speedmaster for approx AU$3,500.
In those days I could read every forum thread ever written about the Speedy in about a month. I doubt very much that could be done by any noob now. Sometimes you have to wonder how many would even think of looking now :(

That is about right, I used to pick up 105.012s and 145.012s for $500 to $800 regularly. Full service was about $600 then, so i got really picky on condition. Nice straight lugs Speedmasters were just as difficult to find then as they are now. Then again, how much was Apple and Google stock then?

Well stock prices go up in the long run. But a company strives to create value - an old watch does not.

Ugh. Can't even fathom picking up a 2998 or 2915 for less than $3K and then watching the prices rise year after year. Cha. Ching.
