Watching Sky News they were announcing the $4.9B development of a new island and cruise terminal on the Gold Coast here in Queensland:

Which is a nice thing in and of itself, but what really drew my attention is that the CEO of Sembawang, the Singapore engineering firm developing the project, Ric Grosvenor, seemed to be wearing a huge square-ish chronograph, which LOOKS to be a vintage Speedmaster 125, what do you guys think?

You may be right. There were a few watches that looked like that in the 70's though. You would think that he has the means to afford this hobby, but then again look at BIll Gates and his Casio.

I think as a general rule, if a man who wears a business suit for a living wears a watch THAT big that doesn't fit under his cuff, he's a watch collector, nobody else would wear something that big and chunky lol

Oh, I think there are a LOT of guys who think wearing a Sub on a bracelet or even NATO is fashionable with a suit. 🙄 They'll use the silly argument about James Bond.

Hey! I wear a Sub on bracelet with a suit 😜

Mind you, when I get my SMPP back I'll finally have a decent dress watch to wear on formal occasions but the Sub is far better for that than my SMPC on orange rubber strap lol

Dear Watch Collectors, yes this is an Omega Speedmaster 125 which I purchased in Hawaii on release, circa 1972, it being factory overhauled two years ago and is in pristine condition. I couldn't wear my Waltham Fob that day. Ric Grosvenor - President and CEO - Sembawang of Singapore.

Ah nice, its amazing how many Speedmasters have performed 40 years or more service with their original owners, that 125 is definitely one of the less common ones given its limited production life but they're also one of the most iconic designs of the 1970s.

I've actually got an older brother that owns a bar and seafood restaurant on Tedder Ave, Main Beach so the added traffic a cruise ship terminal would bring could be very interesting, good luck with the project!

Hi Ric, welcome to ΩF. 👍

We actually live right on Marine Pde. in Biggera Waters, across from where the ship terminal would be. We're fully in favour of the Sembawang proposal, as I imagine any sensible Gold Coast resident is. All the best with the project. Hope you enjoy our forum.
