Hi guys. I'd love to buy an older, all original, Moonwatch and wonder if my budget of $2000-$2500 is realistic. What do you think?

I think that's very reasonable with patience.

There are several different references. Which are you looking for? At your budget you should be able to find a nice 1970s 145.022

The prices of cal 321 Speedies have been escalating at a good clip over the past year or so. Your best bet at that price would be a 70's 145.022 with the cal 861.

I really don't know as to specific references but I appreciate you pointing me in the right direction. I am in the early stages of research and I plan on taking my time and doing it right!

Most examples with an 861 in good condition should be in your price range.

You should easily find a 1969-71 step dial speedy for that.

but then again with speedmaster's.............the sky's the limit......

The group of experts on this Forum can offer valuable advice, saving you time and money. By money, I mean 1) you'll be less likely to make a mistake and 2) you'll get one sooner than later (when prices may be higher).

Thank you. That's actually the time period I'm interested in. I realize that I should also budget in a service over and above.

I think that finding a c861 pre moon speedy at that price will be difficult. They also seem to be climbing in price. You want to include the cost of a movement service ($500) in your budget. You wouldn't buy a 30-40 year old car and not change the oil, tune it up, etc. before taking it on the road. If you are diligent you will find one in your price range. oops! I see you've noted that also.
