Just seen this on eBay, marked as a Mark 2 but looks like a normal Moonwatch. Is this what is meant by redial? Many thanks for any advice as still new to this but having fun learning. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Omega-Spe...447?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item3cff0ab88fPurchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network
There are moonwatch cased racing dials that are valid. I believe there's a 145.022 that legitimately has a racing dial, and a Japan only LE from a later period as well. However none of those would have the Mark II label on the dial... so, yeah, this is a put together.
I wonder if the position of the hands in the photos is pure coincidence, seeing as it's partly obscuring the Mark II text..
The seller has ended that one, and now has another apparent Frankenwatch, this time with a Moonwatch dial but the same case (scratch marks all match and even the 47 tag is still attached). He is selling the Mk 2 dial separately. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Omega-Spe...watch-with-NASA-inscribed-back-/261983261123?Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network As a newbie to this I guess a watch made up of parts from a spares bin is worth less than original?
Yes. Although if it's done well it can be hard to tell the difference - which is why you need to know you're buying from a reputable seller.
Here´s my Franken Mark II Racing !!! Case 145012-67 / 861 Movement / Mark II Racing Dial !!! I paid u$s 450.- After that I bought the racing hands in Otto Frei for less than u$s 100.-) I really dont care...
There are a handful of these floating around, including one that was listed on Under The Loupe on Hodinkee (They later wrote a correction explaining the detail on it so good on them for that) that have the MARK II lettering blacked out to look like an original Japanese LE racing dial:
