Got a call from an OB last week that they have an I allocated Hodinkee Speedmaster. At first I told them no but that I would stop in and take a look. In pictures I thought it was cool but was so-so about it overall. When I saw it in person though I was really drawn to the colors and playfulness of it...different than most watches. I’m not sure where it would fit in with my collection but can’t seem to convince myself I don’t want it.

Looking for people’s thoughts about this one, especially owners.

    Thoughts would certainly be appreciated.

It is not particularly loved here. Most people think that if you like the color way just buy an mk40.

Honestly it’s your money and your choice. If you like it go for it.

Check the Hodinkee H10 arrivals thread. You'll see a broader mix of opinions there.

If you want to keep it for good then you should really like it but if you hesitant to buy it you might no so sure about it.... So might be better to pass...

Yes...for that money just get a MK40 (if you are really hooked to the design) and around ~4k in your pocket!

Also, you don't have to spend all that $, just sayin'. ;)

I am impartial to the MK 40 but I quite dislike the Hodinkee release. I'd prefer the original triple calendar to just a recoloured FOIS dial

The Hodinkee Speedy wouldn't be that bad if they didn't include the fake day/night subdial at 9.

I have one and think its awesome. Love the color scheme and its brand new compared to the MK40. I think it blows their latest IWC collaboration out of the water. The HODINKEE pieces are holding their value and adding some even if they aren't loved by the everyone..

    One word, "ick"

but then I ain't wearing it. The bezel looks out of place on this clownish watch.

This is by far the best reason ever to buy a watch. Maybe just keep it in the box and don’t look at it so depreciation will be minimized. ::facepalm2::

Yes, I'm a HODINKEE fanboy and I enjoy it. I'd say thats another positive, too, Vercingetorix.

Anybody buying that watch has to be a fanboy of that website. Why the capital letters? Respect?

I get so tired of the Clymer slavish devotion to the MK 40 and his personal history with it. Fine and dandy.. But this Hodinkee version leaves me cold. I see no sense putting the fake 24 hour dial on it when it serves no purpose, and it just appears Omega threw past elements at it. It looks contrived and incoherent. But that's just my take on it. 500 owners seem to be thrilled with it, or close to it. If it grabs you then get it, it's not terrible but not compelling to me. The two #Speedy Tuesday editions are a far more attractive product even though there are 4 times the number then the Hodinkee edition.

To the OP, so it was last week, while you are checking with everyone, have you checked if the watch is still there? LOL

It is too colorful for my taste; each to its own

If you like it go for it, but I am always weary buying Omegas at MSRP. Only reason almost all models are so much cheaper by a trusted seller. Do you have any wiggle room on price? Maybe this one will hold its value.

It is still there. I haven’t pulled the trigger yet but will decide soon.

I’m not a Hodinkee fan and am not interested in this watch because of any connection to the website. For me (and as it was with their IWC collaboration), the watch itself is what appeals to me. More specifically, the size. While the two STs are cool, a 42mm speedy with their straight mugs just won’t fit my wrist. The smaller size of the speedy 60th (which I have), the 38mm version of the Mark XVIII (much shorter lugs so the watch actually fits me) and this version of the CK2998 actually fit my wrist whereas the other versions do not.

I couldn’t care less it’s a Hodinkee watch personally but am considering the watch on its own.
