Probably a stupid question that has been answered at least 100 times before, but I can't seem to find an answer.....

The question: Is there a difference between the hand sets of a Speedmaster Pro ( 145.022-69 ) and a Speedmaster MKII from the same period?

Well I see what you mean, but in that thread the differences are painfully obvious. I wasn't talking about those service short and wide hands with the short lume plots, more about the period tritium hands from the early 70's which to me look the same? Here a MKII from that thread with the kind of hands I'm referring to.

    Hi @cristos71

Sorry about that. As noted in the link the hour and minute hand from the Mark II racing are easily distinguished from the hour and minute hand on the black dial version of the Mark II.

Some comment has been made regarding the Mark II black dial handset compared to the 145.022 on OF but nothing which is conclusive.

Archer provided some information on part numbers and length for the Mark II handset in the following thread but there was no comment on how they compare to the 145.022 handset.

    https://omegaforums.net/threads/the-right-hands-for-speedmaster-mark-ii-145-014.36058/

Visually they look very close, if not identical. I have a picture of my Mark II compared to a 145.022-69 from a recent OF sales post.

It would be great to get a definitive answer from someone, like @Archer, who has handled both sets of hands.

I’m guessing that Omega fitted the same hands to both during that period, varying by the small differences that tritium hands from that period had. But, I don’t have enough experience with Mark IIs to be sure.

The mk2 hour hand shown in the comparison photos above looks to have a wider lume plot to my eye.

Yes, there it does, but what about here in these two of @flame 's? I can't see any discernible difference really.

Some of my 861 Speedmasters have that broader lume plot on the hour hand.

My -74, which has been in my possession since 1982 and, by all appearances had never been serviced before I bought it, has a wider lume plot for the hour hand.

I think they used these varying hour hands on both models, interchangeably.

It might just be the angle at which the picture for the 145.022 was taken.

Same two watches with straight on pictures.

You'll see lots of these small variations. Most are just small production differences in batches as received from outside suppliers. Perhaps a different supplier. The industry wasn't as QC conscious as they are today..

Yeah - and sometimes the QC guy was drunk...
