Speedmaster - gloss vs. matt Baton hands

I recently acquired my 1st Tritium-based Speedmaster (~1988) and noted that the hands' finishing (all hands, including sub-register hands) were glossy (un-coated). My SL-based Speedmasters have matt (coated) hands.

I tried to find examples to determine if the change in hand-finishing coincides with the change to SL but unfortunately there aren't that many macros. The "Moonwatch Only" book(s) didn't differentiate hand "finish" (only drop vs. flat, Tritium vs. SL).

In retrospect, I should be posing the question in the watchmaker's area - after all, they're the ones who are really getting up close & personal with the watch components... @Archer - based on your experience, was there a transition period for the [Baton] hands?
