A good video. The debate over the FOIS is long over but I don't like how angled the lugs are - it looks like a straight-lug Professional more than an original straight-lug. If it weren't for that, I'd buy one secondhand and have some fun building out a custom 2915 homage with the parts from the 3594.50 .

Thanks for posting, I've had my eye on a FOIS for awhile and they had some interesting insights.

Love mine, it doesn't do "casual" as well as the Pro, but IMO it does "dressy" a bit better. An elegant watch that doesn't shout about its accomplishments and aren't overly retro - and thank you for that.

It doesn't do NATOs due to the 19mm lug-to-lug, but I am glad I bought it a few years ago :)

^^^^ This, I have been compiling a list of parts and researching prices. Mentioned it to my WM and he just laughed, "whatever you like, they all tell time".

it is a nice looking watch for those who want the practicality of a modern but appreciate vintage aesthetics. especially with rising prices a 2998 is almost unattainable to most

    Thanks :)

Have a couple from the same seller, as he makes reasonably priced, quality 19mm straps...

I've been trying to convince Mrs. Jones to wear one of these so that I could "borrow" it occasionally, but so far to no avail. Too manly, she says.

I like it. I bought the hands to add to my 3573 but ended up going with a panda dial instead.

I just got mine, I like it a lot. I had a vintage speedy (dont remember the reference due to my lack of knowledge) but I had to sell it to pay my ex-wifes rent, don't ask, long story.

A few quick questions from a Speedy newbie if you'll humor me.

    - I see that the diameter of this watch is slightly less than the Speedmaster Professional...but is this down to the lack of crown guards perhaps? Is the dial and bezel the same diameter as the Pro?
    - The minute and hour hands seem to disappear into the dial in a few of the pictures on Hodinkee's article. Do you FOIS owners find the same thing? This is one of the things I really like about the Speedy Pro is that it seems very easy to read at a glance...something that's important to me.

    Yep
As a wearer of a vintage one with alpha hands, I'll say that it is not the most legible watch ever designed, certainly compared with the white baton hands of the Pro. (I'm sure that's exactly why they made the change after only a couple of years.) It works just fine but once in a while I do have to take a second look. I wouldn't, for a second, trade them however.

Yes, I recently sold my FOIS and legibility (rather, lack of legibility) was a factor.
