Speedmaster Ed White 321: Bracelet or Leather Strap?

Just curious, for you leather gurus: what thickness, at the lug end, do you feel is optimal for a Speedmaster? I bought this strap from Bulang, and it’s claimed to be from the original manufacturer who made the strap for Omega in the ‘60’s.

Looks great in the picture, but once on the watch, and wrist, at 2.3mm thickness, it feels way too flimsy for a watch of this size. My straps that are around 4.5mm to 5mm at the lug end seem like a better match. Curious as to your opinions.

They look like the taurillon leather straps they sell; whilst they are an excellent, extremely supple strap they may be a little thin to fill out the lug ends. The lack of stiffness may also allow the watch to move around a little more and feel less “planted” on wrist.

Whilst they are some of the better straps out there it is likely they are better suited to thinner dress watches.

Update after 2.5 months: I pulled the trigger 😛

I bought the brown Railmaster strap, carefully removed the bracelet without any scratches, and mounted the strap on my Ed White. Since this is an unpadded strap, it’s super comfortable and works great with the deployant. I also like the color combination and how the strap accentuates the long, straight lugs. Pictures:

That looks great! Btw is it me or is the 321 even more readable than the 3861? The subdials appear to be less distracting than on the 321.

Hello, I tried this Omega alligator black leather (pictures from Omega) for a few months. I was completely blown away at the first sight, but:

(1) it doesn't look as good 'on me' as 'on from pictures or other people wearing it'

(2) the watch wears / sits much better in its original steel bracelet. The alligator strap comes thick and stiff, so it prevents the watch case from flattly / tightly sit onto the wrist, which is aggrevating the 321 EW's already thick (compared to 3861 hesalite and sapphire) dimensions.

All relative, but from my experience, I prefer 321 EW steel bracelet to wear after adjusted a bit tight so as not for the head / case of the watch to move around when you move your arm. I think it's from taller case and softer bracelet than 3861.

OEM straps are a no-go for me but that's more due to better customization options and pricing at 3rd parties.
