Not sure if this is modern or vintage.
I am looking at potentially acquiring a Speedmaster Day Date but cannot really tell the difference between the references 1750 and 3520. Can anyone tell me what are their differences? Is one better than the other?
Thanks!

I had the 3520.50 and wish I had not sold it. It is very comfortable. The movement seems better than the others. They are also getting more expensive.

I think the older references have the older case and the flat bezel.

I prefer flat bezels.

in any guise these 8 handers are undervalued imho.

Oh ok, I didn’t realize the bezel.
And what’s the difference between the older and newer cases?

Yes I agree it undervalued. Nowadays, watches from much lower end brands are selling as expensive as these.

Unfortunately that article mixes up two completely different sets of watches. The "Reduced" which is not a nickname as he states, and the Speedmaster date watches, which is a totally different line and a totally different movement.

The thing he does get right is that there are a huge number of these models - more than most people imagine. The Cal. 1151 has close to 120 different models for that movement alone...so lots to choose from.

I've serviced a pile of them, and having the ETA 7750 based movement means they can be very accurate and reliable.

Incidentally the Day-Date variant is typically known as the Speedmaster Mk40, so that might make it easier to search for information on it than typing Speedmaster day-date. As mentioned above the Mk40 and Speedmaster Date are both great watches and terrific daily wearers at a really good value for money point, one of the best value entry points into Omega in my view.

It should also be noted that almost every single Mk40 / Speedmaster Date / Speedmaster reduced on the market is due for a service if not well overdue for a service so factor that into your budget. The cost of this will tend to make the former two even better of a deal.

Also one thing I noticed about the Speedmaster day date is that some pieces have very yellow patina lume even though those were only watches from the 90s. However, many from similar years have remained quite white.

That is because there are tritium dial models produced up to ~1997 and Superluminova lume models produced thereafter. The tritium lume often fades beige as it ages, the SL not really at all unless it gets water damaged.
