The more I see these, the more I want one, practicality be damned.
Practicality is actually quite good unless you're super sporty and active. But a rugged diver will be better for that in any case.
Hit one on a door frame hard enough to leave a dent once (on the frame!
😀), didn't faze it or the movement. I am sure you can break them but would think that you would ruin a stainless steel one with the force needed to do that as well (yes, SS would "only" have a massive dent and not shatter). My only complaint would be that the automatic is pretty noisy, I also had to get the reversing wheel changed on the DSotM.
The rotor is quite noisy indeed on the 9300, like a bag of marbles. I'm not sure I'd call it a defect, it's more like a feature or trait.
😀
The movement itself also ticks loud, but I kinda like that.
I think this point can't be stated enough.
The first 2 months of having this watch, I was still uber paranoid about making sure it won't fall. I always removed it over a soft landing zone, protected my left wrist more than the rest of my body, etc., but there was still one incident where I was probably trying to multitask and somehow let go of the watch.... only to have the foldover stay suspended over my fingers (this was over a tile bathroom floor
😲 ).
I also bought jewelry insurance for it that will cover the whole thing if anything were to happen. This is my only nice watch and I am proud to use it a daily wear, and the insurance is an easy reassurance. Just the other day when I was getting out of the car it rammed into the B pillar.... no harm done, but it's nice to know there's insurance...
I think the foldover Titanium/Ceramic clasp is fully worth it. It looks better, feels better and adds a bit of protection.
As for the watch itself, perhaps I'll show up expressing regret one day, but so far I think the worries about fragility are overblown. These things are not fragile at all and can take quite some beating. Most of it would leave marks in stainless steel but does nothing to the ZrO2. Dropping them to the floor might result in a bigger bill, but to be honest, if you're careless enough to let that happen, perhaps a simpler watch is better, as that isn't something you want to do even with normal stainless steel. There are other black alternatives for the more active/clumsy:
😁
I have my DSOTM (+/-) 2 years and the wristband needs to be replaced. Apparently wearing it at my deskjob has worn one of the keepers heavily.
Wow, I am very surprised by the damage to your strap. It's not exactly the same as the one in the .007 model, but I think the material might be pretty much identical. I've had mine for 1 year and 8 months and the strap looks almost new. I wear it at a desk job too. I'd say I wear it normally but remove the watch when I know there's changes for some damage to the strap (showering, playing with the cat - who seems to shred everything, getting my hands in the car engine to change a lightbulb, etc).
I'd say the watch and clasp look 10/10 new and the strap is 8.5/10 (you can see marks of wear on the leather on the inside, outside looks almost the same).
Oh, I've been timing it later and it seems to remain at +1.2s/day. That's accurate enough that I haven't even been adjusting it at the end of the month if it is necessary to change the date.
