However, IMHO the problem new collectors face (and it was the same for me when I started out, and I am by no means 'seasoned') is
1) knowing the difference between fair, good, top, collector grade condition
2) knowing when to pounce (i.e. market experience and observation that the frequency such pieces come around gets lower and lower)
3) getting over the mental hurdle of paying top money for top pieces (taking too long to do this can mean someone else often snags it before you)...but in the same breath knowing what is ludicrous money, and what is fair (thanks William)
4) not knowing of 'backwaters' not prowled by 99% of the internet. (These are a closely guarded secret, so don't ask).
