I may be very much in the minority on this one but does anyone feel the speedmaster bracelet is too heavy. I wear my sub and seiko skx and after switching back to my speedy the watch feels very heavy. Does it bother anyone else?

    (dont roast me please)

It is a bit heavy, but then the flat link vintage ones are too light, the 1171-1450 are sort of the nicest to wear imo.

Anyone ever weight the 1171, 1498, 1998 bracelet?

I think the bracelet is desperately in need of a refresh. The flat-link bracelet on the 60th anniversary Speedmaster both looks and feels perfect. The weight especially is terrific. It made the 60th feel great and well-balanced, like a vintage watch.

I would love to see this adapted to the Speedmaster Professional. So many other details of the current production Speedmaster are correct and traceable to the classic design aesthetic of the first Professional, the 105.012. I think the only part that is "not like the other" is the bracelet - I think adopting the flat link would be an improvement not just in weight and feel, but also design aesthetic.

I love those classy old flat link bracelets but I think the 1171, although incorrect on this 105.012-65 watch, is a great compromise. The 1171 is lighter than a chunky modern bracelet, but feels a little more substantial than those lovely old flat link bracelets

This 1171 with 633 end links was fitted on this 1965 Speedmaster as a service replacement for the original flat link bracelet some time in the early 1970's. I agree with @dsio. I recently tried a new Moonwatch on my wrist in a Jewellers and found it a bit awkward and heavy. I think a similar weight bracelet to an 1171 would work very well on a modern Omega Speedmaster. I don't know if I was imagining it, but it felt like the 2017 watch sat higher on my wrist. Are modern Speedmaster cases slightly higher in profile than old 1960's references?

Are we talking modern Sub and Speedy here? Surely you'd have to be the Princess from "The Princess and the Pea" to feel a difference of around eight grams. Perhaps it's the balance or weight distribution of the bracelet rather than the actual weight?

Whoa thank you for that. I have the modern speedy and 16610 sub.

Not sure why the weight difference is felt so much though on my wrist.

I agree. The newest one is too heavy, which is exactly why I bought a NOS 3570.50 instead of the newer reference with all the goodies (also, that huge set is a pain in the butt to store). The 1998/849 is noticeably lighter and measurably thinner than the new bracelets. If you look for even older/vintage-ier bracelets, they will be even lighter, but I find the 1998/849 as the perfect balance between weight and solid-ness.

I would LOVE to see a modern flat link for the Speedy!
