Speedmaster Bezel Insert

I apologize if this has already been discussed, I searched and couldn't find a thread that was on point.

I just bought a brown faded insert for my chocolate 145.022, but I have no idea how to install it 😀 I have a bezel remover and press to install, just not clear on how the insert itself attatches.

Do these work like the Rolex Sub/GMT bezels where the insert is a pressure fit into the steel bezel ring? I don't really want to mess up the couple DONs I have laying around, should I just buy a donor DNN bezel to make the switch?

Here are a couple pics of the brown bezel next to a ghost DON, I also placed the insert on top of the Speedy so you could see the look I am going for.

Thanks in advance!

I would like to know how to do this also as I have a "Moon crater" bezel I'd like to swap. Oh and dibs on any DON's you damage 😉

Never really got an answer on this query, so I bought a used DNN to use as a donor and gave it a go 😉

You first have to remove the bezel from the watch. Once the bezel was removed, the insert popped out of the bezel from the back with just a bit of pressure from my fingers, I had to work my way around the bezel to get it to fully release. It is similar to a Rolex sub/GMT bezel, but I think there were a couple drops of adhesive and the fit isn't as snug as a Rolex bezel. I am going to use a little adhesive so I don't lose the insert.

I haven't had a chance to put the bezel back on the watch yet, but I wanted to document the process in case anyone has the same question in the future.

Thanks - I was kind of torn over the idea of removing the original DON, but with values on DONs recently it doesn't hurt to put it in the parts box and wear the brown one. If I could only find a brown DON 😀

I've swapped a few Speedy inserts over in my time, and every one was firmly glued in.
(Kept them though, bet some are DON's but in poor nick)
Need to dig them out.
