    Hi,

I’m currently waiting for the new 50th Speedmaster, but I think it will be to expensive.
So today there has been listed a 40th Speedmaster local here in Norway (almost same town I live in). It’s not often these watches come up for sale here, so I will take a look at it later today. I’ve been wanting a Special Speedy Apollo edition for some years and I like the dial very much.

This watch is bought new in dec. 2009 and looks as it has been taken care of. I’ve talked to the seller and asked why it does not come with the black box. He said that it was optional to buy it with the black box or the standard Omega box.
    Is this true?

The watch is for sale for aprox 5000$. I think this is a little to much. Agree? Maybe there is room for a discount.
As I can see on the pictures it does not look like the back case has been opened for service (allignment of the grooves)

Any advice would be highly appreciated.

    Hi,
the price seems to be OK. If you look at chrono24 , they cost all around 6000 Euro and if they come from the US you had to ad the taxes.
I can`t believe that she was not delivered with the black box, because the silver coin is with the set also the cleaning cloth for the 40th anniversary. This parts were only in the box.

    Thank you for the reply.
I have not found any info online that says this watch could be delivered with the red Omega box. It has always been sold with the black box.

I will take a closer look at the watch in about 2 hours. I will try to lower the price even more because of these things:
    - Watch is bought in Malta. It supposed to be taxed into Norway (25%), but no record of that.
    - Watch is most likely never been serviced. No record of it or know to the seller.
    - Original black box is missing.
    - Booklet with moon landing information/pictures and certificate of authenticity with the President of Omegas signature is missing.

It depends on if you desire the full package.

As the deal stands the price is a little steep for my liking seeing as it's missing bits.
I would want everything that it's supposed to come with.
Perhaps a lower price would be more palatable?

The 40th is a really nice design.

All you're getting is the watch as nice as it is.

Only a year ago the same watch (different number) was sold used for 4000$, and that watch was complete.
Standard Speedy is sold used here for around 3500-4000$. Price at AD for a new one is around 4800$ (10% discount).

Tried the watch on and had a good long chat with the seller. I did not get the wow-feeling for this one. I rather wait for the 50th Speedy, and if i don’t like that one either, I will buy a new standard Speedy.

Of course, if the seller is willing to drop the price significant, i’m maybe ready to buy this one. It’s just over midnight where I’m situated, so we had no price discussion today.

Sorry for the bad picture, it was taken inside my car when it was dark.

The watch came from the factory with its special box, so doubt the seller is telling the truth about the box being optional. However, the box is prone to deteriorate (mine was peeling when I bought it used), so perhaps the seller just replaced it with a regular box or just bought it used with the replacement red / standard Omega box. It seems to be a full set otherwise.

The watch is a beauty in person, no longer own mine and it is one of the few pieces would love to re-purchase. That edition has over 7,000 pieces, so if you want a full set (including the box) keep looking. I think I sold mine for $3500 about 2 years ago so think that $5000 without the box is not a bargain.

Thank you for confirming the box issue.

A little update: I was in conversation with the seller during the weekend and he dropped the price aprox 1000$ to 4000$. I could problaby bargain the price a couple of dollars more, but decided not to buy it. I want a complete set and full history and are willing to pay top dollar for that. I really can’t understand why people doesn’t take care of all items that comes with a watch. I personally save every little bit of what comes with it (even peel of plastic etc) and put it in my safe.

I rarely buy new watches now so depend on what the original owner save as part of the set. Have been able (once) to buy an used watch with even the original case stickers (attached to a piece of paper) so there are still some people that do care!

I had the exact same problem a few months ago. I had a choice between the full set for 5300$ and negotiated another one missing the box, coin and papers for 3700$. Since I wear the watch all the time, I don't really care about everything else. I really fell in love with this edition when it first came out and I know I'm not gonna resell it, so that's fine with me. I really enjoyed having the Apollo 11 logo on the second dial and the time of landing in red under the text. Plus I spared 1600$ for another one :D

The more I hear infos about the 50th, the less I'm ready to spend that amount of money on the 50th edition, I will probably buy a regular one, just the standard model, the same standard issue astronauts receive, and I will be happy with that. Nice, would probably take the less expensive one too as you don’t wear the box or cards ;)

This was mine, gone but not forgotten
