I'm not sure is the subject watch qualifies as vintage or modern, but I went with the latter, hence the post in this forum.

As I am celebrating a bit of a milestone, I have been shopping for 'something special'. For a bit of nostalgic reasons, I am drawn to the speedmaster, and specifically the panda dials. Based on proportions, and how the current professional fits, and having had the chance to try on a 2020 Tokyo panda, I am strongly considering a 3569.31.

As there haven't been any of these popping up in the usual places (OF, RF, etc.) I've begun to look at CH24 and eBay. Thanks to prior OF threads, I understand it's fairly common for CH24 to often be more expensive than eBay and certainly my research into a variety of different speedmasters as well as other specific branded watches has demonstrated that for me. This seems to be especially the case with the 3569.32. Sometimes I can attribute the difference to box & papers, or how worn something may appear, but other times...it's beyond me, which leads me to this post.

I'm presently looking at this one on eB: https://www.ebay.com/itm/315122754297

And to my novice eyes, it looks to be in very good shape, has box and warranty card, and seems to be held by a dealer with lots of positive feedback. The narrative description says it was serviced and polished recently. And thanks to spending A LOT of time with the 'learn to fish' thread, I cannot see that the edges or sides have been polished off to a degree that look different to me from number of other pieces at much higher price-points. What am I missing, do the OF-practiced eyes detect something that says 'stay away' or beware of...? Or does this seem a legitimate piece simply priced below many others?

I will add, I am not purchasing this as an investment piece. And while I'd like an original and not a mod, if it were lightly polished or worn a bit, I don't think that would bother me. At any rate, I'd welcome your thoughts on this particular piece, and if my due-diligence process is missing anything essential.

It's a beautiful edition and understandable why you want one.

It's too risky to pay a premium for one without papers. This one has them so that is great. There's nothing visible here that shows as a put together watch.

The polishing isn't bad. There's about 1/2 of one percent of used Rolexes that aren't polished so it shouldn't be so bad if a used Speedmaster gets polished. It'll probably look fine from three feet away from your eye to your wrist.

You know prices probably better than us. The 10kish price seems fair, if not in the lower side. A speedmaster with an added dial was selling for 6500 so a real 35th with bp should be 10k.

Hope this helps. But this is from someone sitting in a chair in his living room, so just a random opinion about this watch.

IMO it is a better edition than the 2020 Olympic panda, Apollo just wears better because of the lower profile case back.

Plus, Apollo vs Olympics is a no-brainer IMO for a Moonwatch.

Everything out of Japan says it’s polished, they are usually pretty good about it but I can never tell with the photos.

Looks like the links are all there, something to keep in mind with watches from Japan. Looks like a pretty good example, reasonable price.
