Hi I have been offered to buy a Speedmaster 57 Trilogy. It looks beautiful but I am kind of skeptic on the size which is considerably smaller than the current vintage pre moon that I currently own? I would appreciate any input and experience from current owners Thank you! Cheers
I don't think it wears small. It is smaller than classic moonwatch but it has exact dimension of the original first speedmaster.
Don't be fooled by the bare dimensions. The dial is exactly the same diameter as the Pro so it doesn't look or feel that much smaller on the wrist. It is just the case missing protrusions and a fractionally smaller bezel which give it the nominally smaller number. I have both styles and they wear virtually the same to me. The Pro is really a 39mm watch with 3mm of extra pusher bump protection.
It’s the perfect size. I have fairly large wrists and the 39.4mm size it right where it needs to be. It also has bags of character. So don’t hesitate, it’s defintely one of my favs. I’ve never heard anyone say it wears small, and I’ve never thought that. If anything the classic speedy pro wears a touch too big.
According to Omega the size is in fact 38.6mm, which causes people to assume it is smaller than the FOIS and much smaller than the Pro. Of course it is not, it just has a slightly narrower rimless bezel, just like the original 2915. https://www.omegawatches.com/watches/specialities/the-1957-trilogy/product
I also received a call from my OB this week that they had been allocated some of these and were on offer for $7250US. Buyers beware, these watches are not holding their value like some of the other limited edition Speedmasters are. I purchased one a year ago for a bit under retail in the secondary market. Since it wasn't getting a lot of wrist time sought to move it on and was surprised at the loss in value.
Don't you think that it is a bit early to state that these watches do not hold value? We'll see in 10 years time.
I tend to agree with you. Reeditions tend not to hold their value... On the other hand there is never a sure thing as there were watches that were hot when they came out and now are unwanted and there are the othe4 ones that tend to loose value and at one moment start picking up... This one is a large edition but who knows what people will think about it ten years from now. Cheers
I always feel a watch with a writing or markings on a bezel always wears bigger than the actual size.
My local OB called me this week to say a "few" Speedy Trilogy pieces are coming to the US from other countries.
Got the call from my Omega Boutique here in NJ about a few popping up. I scooped mine up last year for below retail. Anyone looking to purchase new, shoot me a pm and I’ll disclose the boutique location.
