Speedmaster 3861 OEM Leather and Clasp vs Aftermarket

Hi everyone. I’m loving my Sapphire Sandwich on bracelet, but would like other bands, especially a nice leather band. Omega wants $500USD for its leather band with deployment clasp. Other brands seem to have great quality for much less. So, two parter:

Is the Omega band worth the $250 over the low to mid 100’s for others?

Is the Omega clasp worth the additional $250, or so certain brands make imitations that are just as good?

Thanks in advance.

Try combat_straps on Instagram for more unique straps which cost less, he also can supply an Omega style deployant.

The Omega deployant is worth the price — I’ve never found an aftermarket as good. And I probably spent as much on numerous aftermarket clasps trying to find a could one that I could have bought the Omega one several times over.

The OEM straps are another story. You can get equal quality (or better) from other manufacturers and lots of custom shops. I like Genteel handmade myself.

I've never been that impressed with Omega's leather straps, they are overpriced for what you get, imo. There are much better aftermarket options. I've had great success with Genteel straps, they have a wide variety of materials and colors available, just spec exactly what you want on the website, order, and you'll get your custom made strap in four to five weeks via DHL. They also have some ready-to-wear straps for less money which are good value. www.genteel-handmade.com

Omega deployant buckles are very good quality, but again, pricey. I generally use Fluco for a deployant clasp, or if you like the spring loaded Richard Mille-style folding buckle Artem makes them for about $73. I've got three of them and I like the way they look and operate, high quality. I think I like them more than the Omega deployant. www.artemstraps.com

Thanks everyone.

I was told as long as the strap tapers to the right size (20/16) that it will fit in the clasp Meaning I can buy any band I like. Can anyone speak to this?

For a price of buckle + bracelet in OEM parts, the OEM metal bracelet from 3861 doesn't sound that expensive anymore 😀
As others have said, the buckle is worth the price. But straps? I don't think so, I find them very hard when new so they do require a break in. but for that price you could find a bunch of very high grade straps. Genteel is a good examlple

not necessarily. The Omega strap at the 6 o’clock side is considerably thinner at the end than most straps that use a standard buckle — this is so it will fit the deployant. The 12 o’clock side is also a little longer than most buckle straps. You might not get EVERY 20/16 strap to work if that strap was designed to use a buckle. But a 20/16 deployant strap will work. I know Hirsch makes several at the $125 level.

Strap of comparable quality costs the same or more.

I have ran cross Bulang & Sons. They seem really nice and I love the OG Speedy strap they make, but it’s not deployant built. With that said, it really seems like 3rd party places are making as good or better leather straps.

The keyword here ‘seems like’. Do you believe in Santa presents?😉
I do not sale straps and have no interest whatsoever but I have some experience. Omega straps are high quality. Straps of the same quality from producers like ABP, Camille Fournet or Dangerous9 cost MORE. You can of course find cheap straps if you want to insult your great watch, the choice is yours.

Let me rephrase. They seem like high quality and I like the aesthetic of them more.

It's not necessary to buy omega straps. There are a lot of brands with high quality. You must get the buckle only.

By the way, the new moonwatch bracelet is top in quality/price and daily use, much better than an oyster.

Agreed.

I bought it thinking “get it on the bracelet then go and get more straps.” The more I wear it the more I think the bracelet will be my go to 95% of the time.
