I don’t think so. I am not Sherlock Holmes but making what appears to be a perfect dial with lovely lume, very rare correct hands and a hens tooth rare base 1000 bezel and then banging on fab.suisse at the bottom of the dial would I think be unconventionally brave.

I agree with you. That's why I said it makes no sense to me in my first reply to this thread.

It makes no sense unless you're trying to gain some extra profit from an unresolvable mystery, that makes your watch even more special.

Not a this level. It does not add enough value to an already very expensive and rare watch. It probably adds (relatively)very little and makes it a harder sell. No sane person would customise this kind of dial.

I agree with you again.

Since there's no other dial of that kind (most likely?), which is very uncommon and would deserve some closer inspection and research, no sane person would even consider this dial to be correct without having seen high resolution pictures IMHO.

Looks like a candidate for the new “verification inspection” in beinne?
If they then ok it and explain the reasoning behind it......A potentially genuine, unique 2998/1
Great auction piece for the moneybags buyers.

On Heuers of that era, they wrote Fab. Suisse on dials sold in France. I wonder if other 2998s of the same era with an extract confirming delivey in France have the same Fab. Suisse inscription. Because if they don't, then it would be weird.

Still, I find it's a quirky little detail, cool but it wouldn't change the value of the watch as far as I'm concerned 👍

Everything is possible. First Impulse: Get the Excerpt to see the Delivery Country. Not done here : Big Red Flag. Not only to justify the price. My guess, if genuine from the Factory: was delivered to one of the French Colonies . Rolex did strange things for Africa as well ; after the War Sales were not the best..... kind regards. Achim

Since everything here so far is about Speculations, here is mine: Genuine from the Dial Manufacturer , but never adopted by Omega. Dial manufacturers sales people traveled all watch companies with their Dial sample books. To get new contracts. Some of these old sample books found their way to Swiss Dealers and were onsold . Has happened with so called Prototype dials for Tudor , Rolex and God knows whatelse Brands..... Kind regards. Achim
