Been hunting for Speedmaster 2998 for awhile without much luck. Now there is a tropical 2998 listed on eBay and the current bid is already at $9100. Likely this one will also goes to my dream instead. But a couple observation here to share in case someone else is also interested. Based on the pictures provided the DON bezel is uncommon or arguably incorrect for the model and the lume on the minute hands may also been retouched. Regardless, this one should go BIG. http://www.ebay.com/itm/OMEGA-Speed...067562?hash=item1a1546226a:g:ItAAAOSwmtJXW3iUPurchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network

FYI there were earlier posts on the same Ebay item that you are looking at:- https://omegaforums.net/threads/2998-2-lollipop-on-ebay.40942/
can't believe the sale price given the offering. the hodinkee bump helped. he originally posted it for 56k and it came somewhat close.

If you are going to quote the chart, do it right: Reference Poor Running Good Collector 2915-1*** VAP 55000 70000 110000 2915-2*** VAP 40000 60000 95000 2915-3*** VAP 18500 28000 40000 2998-1 VAP 15000 27000 42000 2998-2 VAP 14000 26000 34000 2998-3 VAP 9000 16000 22000 2998-4 VAP 9000 16000 22000 2998-5 VAP 9000 16000 22000 2998-6 VAP 9000 16000 22000 2998-61 VAP 9000 16000 22000 2998-62 VAP 9000 16000 22000 VAP = Value as parts. And REMEMBER: The chart is a TOOL. It requires a BRAIN to operate it to get useful information. http://speedmaster101.com/price-chart-2/ I have not updated it since April as there has been little movement in prices, but more importantly real life has been getting in the way! Another thing, the watch we are discussing is a BROWN dial 2998, with a lollipop. This is a highly desirable piece, leaving aside the subdial damage and uncertain ageing which may or may not be an issue. (it is not for me). I make it clear you cannot use the chart to value a brown dial. Brown dials are another matter entirely, an entire sub culture that some respected collectors to not subscribe to at all! http://speedmaster101.com/blog/brown-dials/
