For sale is a 2998-62 that I have owned for around 1 year. The watch is fully serviced by Simon Freese, dated 28.07.17, so the remainder of the 18 month warranty is still in play. The watch also comes with an Omega Extract, dated 09.08.17, which is pretty rare to see. The production date was April 30th 1963, and the watch was delivered to Sweden. The watch is by no means a safe queen but I believe the price reflects that at £14500.00. NOW £14k What is left of the dial lume has aged to a nice creamy colour. The dial has some light scratches around the centre pin that a lazy watchmaker left at some point when trying to remove the hands. When you are wearing the watch these are hard to see, and only really show under a loupe. I could have had the scratches filled but decided to leave it as is. The correct long alpha hands were relumed to colour match the dial. The bezel is a correct DO90 but as you can see, it has seen some action. It has faded to a silver/grey colour. The crown is correct as are the original pushers. Please note that the pusher at 2 has a tiny pip on the cap. I could have replaced these with service pushers, but also decided to leave these as they were. The case has had a polish, but still retains a nice shape with decent lugs. The case back is crisp and the engraving can still clearly be seen. Please study the photos as these form part of the description. I have been honest in my summary of the watch, and all functions work as they should. This is a chance to own a correct 2998 at a reasonable price. Really nice listing. Probably worth underlining here how marks or blemishes that may look significant in a photograph really do fade away and are next to invisible on the wrist, IRL, outside the loupe. You make note of the same, and I have zero doubt it’s the case here.
Recommended seller. I have dealt with him and he is 100% How unusual to see an extract dated 2017 for a 2998 - What did you do, kidnap George Clooney?
I will have to re-try my Extract requests! I have at least one that is within a few digits. @smitty190373 , GLWYS! lovely watch.
Pardon my ignorance but why is it rare with an extract from 2017 for a 2998? I am probably missing something but what
I think many many requests for archives are turned down because there are gaps in the archives and scant records for that period, especially for the Speedmasters.
Lovely watch that has seen a bit of real life mate. Doesn't belong in a safe. It's a beautiful 'wrist watch' and serviced by 'the main man' Simon Freese! Good luck with the sale.
