    Hi All,
So here I am on a Sunday minding my own business when a collector friend sends me a text asking if I want to buy a 2998-6 Speedie. Not something that happens every day! He sent me some pics but I'll need to inspect it in person and have a careful look at the movement obviously.

There's clearly a few things wrong, bezel, crown ( they don't last 50 years) crystal and the pushers might be too big as well. However hour and minute hands look right and so does the dial.

I'm also not sure what reference the bracelet is but it looks stretchy [emoji2]

Without a movement shot we're guessing. Given the price for 2998's we shouldn't be guessing.

I don't think they are Omega end pieces, so is the bracelet OE?
Tritium looks either gone or relumed.
    Just something for the mix.

Well the lume is good and complete. Sub hands have been touched up and the central chrono hand completely covered in white paint. The movement has the correct parts as far as I can tell.
    Interestingly, it's a 2998-5 not a 6 as the seller claimed.

The bracelet is an incorrect 1035 and it comes with two of them and a DON90 bezel which is great :)

it's hard to read the movement #. looks like 18.9m -- is that correct? if so, i believe that's 2998-6 range. however, the case back is a 2998-5.

Very nice. Being a -5, you could put a straight chrono hand on there.

    Going to buy?

On the serial number thing, I think it's 18,945,xxx which appears to be right for a -5 , right on the tail end, according to speedmaster101.

Ah ok, I was using MWO. The -5 came with either spear or straight chrono hand, so don't necessarily need to switch to straight.

I will be able to strip and redo the paint on the hands without too much trouble. The sub dial hands don't bother me but the painted over lume on the chrono hand does.

Ha yes it wasn't the average text message that's for sure. About a month ago he did the same thing to me with a Ploprof 600!

That looks amazing even with the decimal bezel. Dial looks as if its in great shape too, minus the funky lume. I can't tell if it's more or less gone or if it was relumed, as someone else already said. Oddities aside, You're a lucky fella!

If you want to trade one of those extra 1035's for a 1171 by chance, Shoot me a pm ;D

    Looks overall good.
My only concern would be the bezel.

The original dot over 90 is near impossible to find as a spare part unless you cannibalise it from another.

So it boils down to the right price. Good luck

Whats wrong about the lume in your opinion? I think it is all original as is and even the color is OK for me...

And of course you want to note that all the chrono white hands are all repainted. (Badly in my opinion) not a big deal if that doesn't affect you. But good for you to know.

    Here's the haul, I couldn't stop myself unfortunately [emoji15].

I'll think about the bracelet trade Travis ;) haha.

I think the lume is fine too. Under a 10x lupe it's all there. It hasn't been redone. As I said before the poorly repainted hands aren't great and I'll have to rustle up a proper crystal but at least the DON90 bezel is in good condition. That's a win in my book :)[IMG]
