Hello, this is my 1st post here, i've been looking to buy a speedmaster and i've found this watch on the net. The model number is 145.022, its has the 1450/808 bracelet, 861 movement, it's from the 80's and has a slightly different font on the word Speedmaster on the dial, the S and R are longer than usual. The seller says it has all original parts and lists is as being in very good condition. So i'm pretty happy with all of that and i'm ready to go for it, the seller accepts paypal so it will be a safe transaction. However, i'm not an expert. What do you guys think? Here are some pics:
Looks all good so far. Make sure he resets the hands so you can set how it lines up to the 12 position. Bezel lolks correct, dial is correct, no serial on case and 1450 bracelet matches up. What's the price?
DJ, IMHO, that's 10-15% high, but not terrible. Also, do you know service history? The problem with some of these older speedy's is that they have NEVER been serviced---aka, they need a rehab, which is not cheap. The price of this speedy could go to 2850 really, really quickly.
Hello, it has been in the box for the last 10 years, so yes i'm sure it will need a service... i'm interested in this one because it has the hard to find 1450 bracelet + it's in better condition aesthetically than the others i looked at.
1450s are nice, they eclipsed the vintage 1039 bracelets in value over recent years (Robert-Jan Broer's fault but he was right they're well made and still look vintage).
I don't know the bracelets like some of the other experts here.... But 2200 for a full set 145.022 isn't terrible. I actually just sold a fully serviced 145.022 head for 2400.
Cool! Congrats! I assume you took the proper precautions of paypal, negotiating a 3 day review period, etc?
Also, congrats on the classic! I have a 3590 (I don't know if there is any difference between that and the 145.022) and it is my go-to watch. In fact, my conundrum is I can't find anything else I want to wear!
Sounds good, this watch has a great history. Yes i paid via paypal so if there are any problems i am covered
When I was looking for a certain Speedmaster reduced, our very own DSIO told me not to waste my money and hooked me up with a BNIB 1987 limited edition ( for the Italian market) 145.022. I still can't believe I picked off this watch for the price I did. And, it's 1 of only 500 which makes it ridiculously rare for any watch but especially for an Omega. Omega makes like 500 watches an hour lolzzzzzzzzzxoxo thanks, dsio!!!!!!!
Hi citizenrich, does your watch have the elongated S and R on the the word speedmaster? This one is from Italy too. The seller listed it as a limited edition but i thought that was because of the different font... Is your watch numbered?
Yeah i've noticed that watch prices are always lower in the US... but if you get them send to Europe you have to pay 20% customs charges. I looked around quite a bit and the only other one i found with the 1450 bracelet was on chrono24 @ 2350 euros and that one was snapped up fast.
Hi djmusicman, Like you I also suffer from higher prices here in UK as opposed to the US but I would say you are better off spending the couple of hundred extra Euros on a cleaner better example with a great condition box and the cool long S and R dial version you have got then trying to save a couple of hundred Euros on a lesser example in the long run and years to come it will of been worth it IMHO.Once again congratulations of your beautiful new watch and wear it in health. Marc
Congrats dj, that watch looks like a nice one to me and don't worry about feedback from forum members saying it was priced a little high - time is money, I say get the piece that appeals to you rather than spending more time looking for something a little cheaper, just not worth it. Enjoy.
I promised Ash that i wouldnt post a photo until I purchased a real camera and learned how to photograph lol (for real). the watch I have is #392 out of 500. It's TT with gold subdials. Very "Italian" lol. its one of the prettiest watches I've ever seen and I've seen lots of pretty watches...
