Speedmaster 145.022 - Caseback and bezel, interchangeable?

Hi,

I recently purchased 1988/1988 145.022. Unfortunately the case has seen some bad polishing and it´s technically ruined - it will do for now but some point I want to get watch back to its former glory.

Managed to find a NOS 145.022 (Mid case) and the plan is to do the swap in the next service. My current case is manufactured by KB (based on the caseback). The NOS case manufacturer is unknown since it does not have a caseback.

What u guys think? Will my current caseback go on its place without any problems if the NOS case is manufactured for.ex by C.R.D. Same thoughts about the bezel?

Thanks in advance
Tatu

Case-backs should be interchangeable as long as everything is undamaged. In principle, bezels also, and usually it's not a problem, but they can sometimes be finicky going from case to case. Hard to predict with absolute certainty, but if you have bad luck, a good watchmaker should be able to install it.

Both case backs and bezels are not fully interchangeable, so it depends a bit on the case maker...

I stand corrected. 😀

Thanks. I assume that tolerances are small and we are not talking about 1mm differences, different threads etc. So I try to stay positive and say the swap is doable... 😀
