I recently started to look around for a speedmaster and found one that is alot cheaper than other ones. I tried to find out why and found that the serial number doesn't match with the case number? Also the hands and pushers has been replaced. The auction which are selling it have estimated the price to 1500 euros. I would really appreciate if someone here could help me and tell me why this one is so much cheaper than other speedmasters from around the same era. Here is some photos of the watch:
The serial number is correct for the reference. It's not cheap though as it doesn't have a sale price. It simply has an estimate. Auction houses often underestimated lots to drum up interest
Ok, thanks! Thats true. I just thought there might be something because they have alot of other speedmasters and this is by far the cheapest.
They do indeed David. I was chatting to a London auction house expert, at a London watch meeting, last year. I showed him my Dad's old 105.012-65. He looked at it, screwed up his nose and said "Hmmm?... we see a lot of these but I suppose we would put it in at about.... £5000 to see how it goes??? .....it may achieve £5500 to £6000???". I said "oooh as much as that?... Thankyou for you advice!"
